LYDS is made up of volunteers from our local community, who walk the streets after schools finish each day, to help children feel safer on their way home. It was set up in Dulwich over a year ago in response to an increase in muggings locally. The scheme has been very successful resulting in a 45% fall in local robberies in the first year.

But……we need to continue to be seen patrolling the streets to stop muggings increasing again and also of course to deter any muggings taking place, especially now when it’s dark after school. Volunteers who patrolled from the start of the scheme have been fantastic, however for many their day-to-day commitments are now such that they can’t volunteer as much anymore. We urgently therefore need new volunteers to continue to help make our local children feel safer.

Would you consider joining us for a patrol as a ‘taster’ session? If you decide after this that you would like to join us more permanently you can sign up for as little/many as you like – no pressure at all. It’s only for an hour or so (from 3:30 or 4pm) on any afternoon to suit you, as and when you’re able. We walk the streets in two sets of pairs, with radios provided to contact each other. It is a great way to meet new local people and give back to the community. Dogs welcome so it could be part of one of your daily dog walks!

🚨Stolen phones recovered in Herne Hill, Denmark Hill, Dulwich and Camberwell area on 24/6/25. Do you recognise these?🚨 posted on

My colleague had her phone snatched by a thief cyclist whilst walking on the morning of 24/6/25 to King's College Hospital NHS. We were able to track the phone using ‘Find my Device’ to a location in Herne Hill, where it had been stashed with 4 other stolen phones within a drainpipe in the afternoon.

All the phones have been turned back on. Local police was called to the location and the remaining 4 phones handed into them.

If you recognise any of the phones or the photos please contact Dulwich Hill Police – they also provided the email address [email protected]
