A big shout out to one of our coaches Daisy Bennett

She’s been helping to run our squad girls sessions and is smashing it ⚽️

For her commitment and great coaching skills we will now be putting Daisy on her FA Level one course, with a view to progressing onto her UEFA C after that

The girls are loving the sessions 🙌

In today’s environment it’s becoming harder and harder for young people to gain accessibility to courses doing what they enjoy,to create employability pathways and opportunities.

Daisy has been a part of Headz Up since day one and has also completed her Multi Sports Level Two award.Thats what we want to do for more teenagers in Dudley. Its vitally important our young people are not forgotten.

Well done Daisy 👏👏👏

A little bit on our men’s mental health programme 👇👇👇

Headz Up CIC MIND Collective programme exists because there is a lack of real investment both locally and nationally when it comes to men’s mental health.

Support is limited, waiting lists are long and too many men are expected to just cope. Most of the men we support are working men. They have jobs to keep families to support bills to pay. They cannot afford to take time off work to sit in appointments during the day. That is why our sessions run in the evenings. That is when outreach actually works. That is when men can show up.

What we see again and again is men stuck in the same place. Not at rock bottom but just above it. Getting by. Surviving. Carrying everything. Telling themselves they are fine because they are still functioning. That is the trap.

We support men through specialist mental health support using physical activity as the gateway. No judgement. No labels. Just somewhere to turn up breathe, exercise and talk. Then we help to give you the tools to combat depression and anxiety for a lifestyle change.

This week men attended our sessions and also accessed counselling support. Some came to train. Some came to talk. Some just needed time out from the pressure of life. All of it matters.

We currently run turn up and play football sessions twice a week, Wednesdays circuit class at Fortnocks Health Club and Thursdays boxercise, with professional boxer Ben Collins

Over 80 men have accessed these sessions so far and every single one has been free. More groups are coming

The reason this matters is simple.

▪️Seventy five percent of suicides are male.
▪️In the UK 14 men die every single day.
▪️That is around 5000 men a year.
▪️Forty percent of men struggle with their mental health
▪️Most do not speak up.
▪️Because of stigma.
▪️Because they feel they should cope.
▪️Because they cannot afford to stop.
▪️Silence is costing lives.
▪️It is okay to not be okay.
▪️It is okay to take time out.
▪️It is okay to step back and reset.
▪️Talking helps.
▪️Turning up helps.
🎯Your life matters.

June is Mental Health Awareness Month. As the founder of Headz Up I am running 200km this month. Not to prove anything. Just to show that movement, consistency and showing up can help you find your way back.I know what rock bottom feels like😏

Looking after yourself is not selfish. It improves your mood energy focus and confidence. You do not need to change everything at once. Aim to be 1 percent better every day.

If this hits home, turn up,reach out and talk. If you can think of someone this may help too, please get in touch 📞

You do not have to carry this on your own💚

This weekend reminded me why we do this.

Over 20 men from our MIND Collective programme at Headz Up CIC came together and climbed Cadair Idris in South Snowdonia.

On paper it was a mountain hike but In reality it was men turning up for themselves and for each other while dealing with depression, isolation and anxiety.

Some of the lads were quiet at the start. Some were nervous. Some were carrying things you cannot see. There were tough moments on the way up. Legs burning. Doubt creeping in. Old voices saying quit.

But nobody was left behind

Men checked in on each other. Encouraged each other. Walked side by side when it got heavy. No judgement. No pretending to be fine.
At the top there was pride. Relief. A few tears. Real conversations.

This is what happens when men are given space to be honest and supported by other men who get it.Our staff have a lived/living experience of poor mental health and suicidal thoughts and we need more funding across the board to have maximum
impact not more prescriptions

This work matters. It saves lives. And we are just getting started.More new groups launching soon 👀

Tomorrow over 20 men from our MIND Collective programme will be taking on our first planned hike of the year at Cadair Idris in South Snowdon

Over the past few months we’ve done lots of work with individuals who lacked confidence, low self esteem, suffering from anxiety and/or depression, poor physical health and isolation

Our aim is to make men understand that they are not alone in feeling like this and it’s not shameful either. When like minded individuals come together you create a movement of empowerment and tomorrow we will be climbing to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health💚

I did it.
5k for 50 days straight. That’s six full marathons in 50 days.
Fifty days of going one v one with myself and not backing down.

Mental health is the hardest battle you’ll ever face. When your mind isn’t right, you’re in a bad place. I was there.

Over these 50 days I’ve lost weight, broken sub 30, and found a belief in myself I never knew I had. But the best part is hearing the people who mean everything to me say they’re proud of me. And honestly, I am too for the first time in my life

I did this for anyone fighting a silent battle. For the ones who don’t speak up. For anyone dealing with depression and anxiety in their own head.
This shows we can fight back.

Choose you✅
Go ghost✅
Keep turning up✅
You’re not too old✅
Not too unfit✅
And it’s never too late to change your life✅
