A little bit on our men’s mental health programme 👇👇👇
Headz Up CIC MIND Collective programme exists because there is a lack of real investment both locally and nationally when it comes to men’s mental health.
Support is limited, waiting lists are long and too many men are expected to just cope. Most of the men we support are working men. They have jobs to keep families to support bills to pay. They cannot afford to take time off work to sit in appointments during the day. That is why our sessions run in the evenings. That is when outreach actually works. That is when men can show up.
What we see again and again is men stuck in the same place. Not at rock bottom but just above it. Getting by. Surviving. Carrying everything. Telling themselves they are fine because they are still functioning. That is the trap.
We support men through specialist mental health support using physical activity as the gateway. No judgement. No labels. Just somewhere to turn up breathe, exercise and talk. Then we help to give you the tools to combat depression and anxiety for a lifestyle change.
This week men attended our sessions and also accessed counselling support. Some came to train. Some came to talk. Some just needed time out from the pressure of life. All of it matters.
We currently run turn up and play football sessions twice a week, Wednesdays circuit class at Fortnocks Health Club and Thursdays boxercise, with professional boxer Ben Collins
Over 80 men have accessed these sessions so far and every single one has been free. More groups are coming
The reason this matters is simple.
▪️Seventy five percent of suicides are male.
▪️In the UK 14 men die every single day.
▪️That is around 5000 men a year.
▪️Forty percent of men struggle with their mental health
▪️Most do not speak up.
▪️Because of stigma.
▪️Because they feel they should cope.
▪️Because they cannot afford to stop.
▪️Silence is costing lives.
▪️It is okay to not be okay.
▪️It is okay to take time out.
▪️It is okay to step back and reset.
▪️Talking helps.
▪️Turning up helps.
🎯Your life matters.
June is Mental Health Awareness Month. As the founder of Headz Up I am running 200km this month. Not to prove anything. Just to show that movement, consistency and showing up can help you find your way back.I know what rock bottom feels like😏
Looking after yourself is not selfish. It improves your mood energy focus and confidence. You do not need to change everything at once. Aim to be 1 percent better every day.
If this hits home, turn up,reach out and talk. If you can think of someone this may help too, please get in touch 📞
You do not have to carry this on your own💚
