Have you seen what may be happening?!

Recent reporting by The i paper and Financial Times has speculated that the Government may propose a fundamental restructuring of the SEND system, including a four-tier support model and digital passports, while restricting EHC plans to children and young people whose needs cannot be met within those tiers.

A system that requires children and young people to move sequentially through tiers of support, combined with reduced access to EHC plans, risks leaving children and young people with no statutory protection or enforceable provision. It would move away from meeting individual needs and could effectively require children to fail before qualifying for legal support.

While this is speculation, and we await details of the White Paper, at IPSEA we will continue to fight for all children and young people to be able to access an education which meets their individual needs. Any reform of the SEND system must strengthen, not weaken, the legal protections that ensure children and young people receive the educational provision they need.

Hello lovely people 👋

I’ve been a bit quiet recently on here and I wanted to pop on and say I haven’t gone anywhere. Life has just… happened. Birthdays 🎂, Christmas 🎄, and that familiar place many of you will know all too well: admin hell over school places.

Charlotte still doesn’t have a school place, so she’s at home with me for now — and honestly? It’s working really well for her 🙌 She’s calmer, happier, and learning in a way that suits her. Big win.

At the same time, we’re also gearing up for tribunal in a couple of months (because of course we are 🙃). I know so many of you are juggling the same mix of forms, emails, deadlines, and emotional energy — you are absolutely not alone.

Even when things go quiet on the page, please know this:
✨ Fix SEND Dorset is still here
✨ We are still committed to being actively involved in improving SEND in Dorset
✨ We will continue to add our voices and support to national campaigns too

Change doesn’t happen overnight — but it does happen when parents stick together. People power is everything. 💪

Before I sign off, I’d really love to hear how you are doing. 💬
Have you had a small (or big!) SEND win recently? 🙌
Are you in the thick of a frustration and need to vent? 😮‍💨
Or have you seen a campaign or action that you think Fix SEND Dorset could get involved in?

This group is about supporting each other as much as it is about change — so please share, check in, and keep the conversation going. We’re in this together. 💚💙

The parent power at its best! We are so pleased to see that Lib Dem Chris Coghlan for Dorking and Horley has listened to parents and worked very hard to ensure that their views are heard at a higher level and to make the council accountable.

As we know, there is a National SEND crisis and so many families here in Dorset with children in schools (or not in school!) in Dorset Council and BCP Council who are being failed causing such distress and difficulties.

Thank you to Channel 4 News for covering our family’s story. We will keep highlighting how children are being failed locally by Dorset Council as well as nationwide by other local authorities. We hope the White Paper due out early 2026 brings meaningful changes that can be implemented quickly.

Great work from Autism Action!
