🪶 This fledgling Magpie arrived with us at around 5 weeks old. It is still in the process of growing its adult feathers, making it look out of proportion. The tail area is the last to feather.
🐦 Magpies will usually be support fed by their parents until around 2 months old; becoming fully independent by 6 months old.

ℹ️ If you do find a fledging magpie and it ISN’T in any danger e.g. from predators or people, it’s best to leave it alone. The parents will likely know where their chicks are and still be caring for them. 💚

Molly Goose enjoying her bath! 🛁

💦 Molly has regular swimming sessions to help strengthen and exercise her legs.
🐥Goslings (like ducklings) in rescues, do not have an adult to preen them, meaning they lack the waterproofing oils they need to keep them warm and dry. To stop Molly catching a chill; which can be fatal, she baths in warm water and is dried thoroughly afterward.

💚 🦜 Meet Olive 🦜 💚

Olive is one of our resident Parakeets; rescued by a kind member of the public.

🌏She is an Alexandrine Parakeet; native to South and South East Asia.

⚠️Like our African Grey, Alexandrine Parakeets were listed as ‘near threatened’ after a steep decline their numbers due to habitat loss and capture for the illegal pet trade.

ℹ️ We know Olive is female, as males have a black stripe across their cheek.

ℹ️ Olive could live for up to 30 years.

🦜 Alexandrine Parakeets are very active and talkative. She loves to spend time with our resident peacocks and African Grey-Coco.

😏She frequently gets up to mischief and loves to observe what we are doing. She likes to sit and watch the hospital patients being cleaned out and is especially interested in the residents of our incubators. She will select equipment to mirror what we are doing, and loves to ‘use’ syringe tubes.

Olive eats seeds, nuts and a variety of fruits.

🕊️ Collared Dove rescue 🕊️

This fledgling dove is around 5 weeks old. Although it can eat independently, it would still rely on its parents for food and safety.

ℹ️ Collared Doves are much smaller than wood pigeons.

ℹ️ Like pigeons, they feed their young crop milk.

ℹ️ They are easily recognisable for their
call, which sounds like ‘hoo hoo hoo ho hooo’.

💚This squab will stay with us until it’s old enough to be released in a few weeks time.

Come and spend time immersed in nature and animals; with so many benefits to physical and metal health. A chance to meet the team; see what we do and meet and feed the animals we care for. You can also help us collect the eggs, hold Edwig our barn owl and have a cuddle with our guinea pig Jack.

📷 🦉 A huge thank you to Laurence Riley, an incredibly talented 15-year-old photographer and passionate owl photographer, who came to our rescue for the owl photography session.

Laurence generously gave up his time to capture some absolutely stunning photographs. His eye for detail, patience, and natural talent behind the camera are truly remarkable, and the images he took are simply amazing.

It's wonderful to see such a young person using their skills and passion to support wildlife conservation.
