Coming up next Tuesday, 15th September, our Trustee Oliver Nicholson will be giving a talk to the Civic Society in the Mayor's Parlour at the Town Hall, 7 for 7.30pm. The title is Tiverton Town Leat: Past, Present and Future. Discover even more about this wonderful piece of Tiverton's heritage and our plans to restore it.

If you see people looking seriously at the Leat today or Monday, they may be our Trustees and one of the contractors who are going to tender for the restoration work. Long way to go yet, as once we have an approved contractor and a price, we need to apply to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the money to do the work. But a step in the right direction.

Big thank you to Mid Devon District Council who have given us a grant to employ a local web designer, so we will have our own website. It comes from their Love your Town Centre, Creative Communities Fund. We're about to get going on this and will let you know when it's up and running.

A Date for your Diaries: two of us will be giving a talk to the Civic Society later this year!!

Welcome to our 2026 program of Tiverton Civic Society talks at Tiverton Town Hall. We kick off the season on Tuesday evening with a fabulous illustrated talk on Avian Photography from Andrew Hughes, wildlife photographer, local farmer and owner of the wildlife project at Backwoods Farm in Bickleigh.
Talks start at 7.30pm in the Mayoralty Room at The Town Hall, doors open from 7.00pm. Accessible access by lift. £5.00 for non-members or become a member of Tiverton Civic Society for just £12 a year and get access to all of our talks for free! (https://tivertoncivicsoc.org.uk/join/how-to-join-us/)
It is a great way to engage with your locality, meet new people and enjoy some top quality presentations on a wide variety of topics. Everyone welcome!

This afternoon we're crowded over a few detailed, enormous maps - making sure we know exactly who we need to (politely, of course!) ask for access in the continuation of our work.

Of COURSE we scheduled this on the first dry day of the year 😅

The Trustees wish you all a very happy (belated) Christmas, and the best wishes for a stupendous New Year!

We absolutely could not do this without all of you, our supporters - and it is often by reminding ourselves of the trust that you put in us to care for our Leat that gives us a Pick Me Up when things get challenging 🥲
