The Bideford Lighthouse Project CIC

The Bideford Lighthouse Project CIC We are a supported accommodation for men seeking to maintain abstinence based recovery We run an 8 bed house in Bideford for me only.

We have a strict rule about the need for abstinence and won't tolerate violence but otherwise encourage a culture of self responsibility. We provide support and housing management with skilled and experienced staff. Our residents attend meetings of mutual aid fellowships and are responsible for working their own recovery within a mutual aid community in the house. The length of stay is initially f

or 6 months but can be extended where appropriate. We will do all we can to help residents to find move on accommodation at the appropriate time. We conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments at the project liaising with professional referrers as appropriate. The assessment will enable the first Support Plan to be created. All Support Plans are "owned" by the resident. On admission we will explain how the project works and the rules, introduce the new arrival to their Key Worker and to the established residents who will act as their "buddy". We will ensure registration with a local GP Practice. Residents will be helped by staff to apply for Housing Benefit and any other relevant benefits. Substance misuse screening is by saliva samples and breath tests. It will be done on arrival and at random times throughout a person's stay. We believe that environment can play an important part in addressing these problems and so we believe an affirming environment is conducive to the recovery process. We have worked hard to create a home which is a safe, welcoming, comfortable, visually stimulating and calming, valuing, affirming and most definitely not institutional. There are 8 individual lockable bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (all with showers and one with a bath), a lounge with a large TV, a newly fitted kitchen/diner and an outside patio. Smoking is allowed outside in the patio area but nowhere else in the building. Access to the house is controlled by video entry system with all residents having their own electronic fob. The house meets all HMO standards.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Recovery, Connection & Stepping Outside Comfort Zones ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last week the lads from The Bideford Lighthouse Project CIC headed to Adrenalin Quarryfor a day packed with challenge, laughter, and a fair bit of adrenaline.

From tackling the Aqua Park and Zip Line to competing on the Go Karts, the day gave everyone the chance to push themselves, support one another, and enjoy being part of something positive together.

What made the day even more special was that it was organised by Jed, a former resident who has successfully moved on from the project and wanted to give something back to the community that supported him in his own recovery journey.

That continued connection is a huge part of what recovery is all about.
Seeing people move forward, rebuild their lives, and then return to encourage others seeking the freedom he's so grateful to have found, is incredibly powerful โ€” and exactly the kind of community spirit we aim to build at the Lighthouse.

๐Ÿ™A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to National Lottery players whose support helps make opportunities like this possible.

Recovery is about far more than abstinence โ€” itโ€™s about rebuilding confidence, connection, and purpose. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Congratulations to Don and Alex! ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

This weekend they both completed the Paris Half Marathon, taking on the challenge through the streets of one of the worldโ€™s most iconic cities.

Not only did they finish the race, they also used the opportunity to raise money for causes close to their hearts โ€” raising an incredible ยฃ891 so far for their chosen charities. ๐Ÿ‘

A huge well done to both of them for the dedication, training, and determination it takes to complete a half marathon โ€” and for turning it into something that helps others too.

If you see them around, make sure you congratulate them!

๐ŸŽ‰ The Bideford Lighthouse Project CIC is delighted to announce that we have been successful in our application to The National Lottery Community Fund !

Weโ€™ve been awarded ยฃ19,500 to introduce our new Senior Peer Mentor Programme. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ‘ฌ

โ™ฅ๏ธ This funding allows us to make the most of the knowledge and hardโ€‘won experience of our former residents. With dedicated training and support, theyโ€™ll return as Senior Peer Mentors, helping those at the very beginning of their recovery journey at The Lighthouse.

๐Ÿก Our vision is to extend our therapeutic community model beyond the walls of our residential house. As people move on, many still need structure, support, and a sense of belonging. This project keeps them connected to the Lighthouse community while they continue their recovery, build new skills, and contribute meaningfully to othersโ€™ wellbeing.

โš“ By creating a sustainable, peerโ€‘led support network, this programme will strengthen recovery outcomes, reduce isolation, and foster purpose for both Senior Peers and new residents. It also helps build community resilience by empowering people with lived experience to shape and support the recovery environment.
