Kenny headed to Macqueen Vets for a check up and tick removal help, he’s just the sweetest, softest soul ❤️‍🩹

🐱💔 TICKS ARE MORE THAN JUST A NUISANCE – THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS! 🐶

Sadly, one of the cats taken into our care after likely being dumped was found to have ticks attached to him.

It’s heartbreaking that animals can be abandoned and left vulnerable, without anyone to check their health or provide the care they desperately need. 💔

But did you know ticks can pose a serious risk to both cats and dogs?

🕷️ What are the dangers of ticks?

Ticks attach themselves to an animal’s skin and feed on their blood. If left attached, they can cause problems including:

🔴 Skin irritation and infection around the bite site.

🔴 Blood loss and anaemia in severe infestations, particularly in small, young or vulnerable animals.

🔴 Tick-borne diseases, which can cause serious illness. Some diseases are uncommon in the UK, but the risk can vary depending on where an animal has travelled.

🔴 Pain and discomfort, with ticks often hiding in areas that can be difficult to spot, such as around the ears, face, neck and between the toes.

🐾 What should you do if you find a tick?

✔️ Check your pets regularly, especially after walks or time outdoors.

✔️ Use a suitable tick-removal tool and follow the instructions carefully. If you are unsure, or there are lots of ticks, contact your vet.

✔️ Never squeeze, burn or smother a tick with substances such as oil or petroleum jelly.

✔️ Speak to your vet about suitable tick prevention for your pet. Never use a dog flea or tick product on a cat unless your vet confirms it is safe, some ingredients, including permethrin, are highly toxic to cats.

❤️ Please remember: responsible pet ownership means providing veterinary care, parasite prevention and protection throughout your animal’s life.

If you can no longer care for an animal, please seek help from a reputable rescue or animal welfare organisation.

Abandonment is never the answer.

Our branch is volunteer-run, and we work hard to help vulnerable animals in our local community. Every bit of support helps us continue to care for those who need us most. 🐾

Good news, he’s now safely in care and back with his buddy, clearly bonded ❤️‍🩹

Please don’t dump your pets, call for help, do the responsible thing… the field was absolutely freezing last night 😞

Remember Otter 🦦?

She was one of the bottle babies who were really poorly and gave us all a fright, days in intensive care, many sleepless and worrying nights for their fosterers and all those who helped but everyone gave their everything to give them a chance of a future.

Sadly two passed away, two have been rehomed and Otter is the final to go through her neuter today at Macqueen Vets, what a super team as usual!

During her neuter, it is clear she has one very small kidney however her output and results show her body and levels are where they need to be and she’s coping well.

We don’t know if she will have a long or short life but either way she was given the chance and she’s loving life with all the fuss and love from her wonderful foster parents ❤️‍🩹🥰
