Waterside Together WNP

Waterside Together WNP It is funded by PEACEPLUS, a prog managed by SEUPB (Special EU Programmes Body).

Waterside Together is a shared green spaces events and festival project which aims to transform spaces that are perceived as belonging to the β€˜other community’. Waterside Together is a shared space and festivals project, which aims to transform spaces that are perceived as belonging to the 'other community' into shared spaces that are open welcoming, and safe for all members of the Waterside commu

nity. This is a project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the SEUPB through Derry City and Strabane District Council. Programmes will be delivered in parks, greenways and community spaces, targeting a range of participants including families, children and young people, older people and members of the BAME community. Part of the programme will be a shared space festival that promotes the communal usage of the green infrastructure in the Waterside and encourages the movement of people to areas that they would not usually use for recreational purposes.

πŸ“·πŸŒΏ STEP INSIDE A CAMERA! πŸŒΏπŸ“·

πŸ‘€ What if you could turn an entire room into a camera?

Join Denzil Browne on 26th and 27th September at the Waterside Women’s Centre for a special Camera Obscura & Pinhole Photography Workshop, as part of Waterside Together, our PEACEPLUS shared green spaces project. πŸŒ³πŸ“Έ

πŸ” But what is a camera obscura?

A camera obscura is a darkened room where light enters through a small opening, projecting an image of the outside world onto the walls inside.

🏠✨ For this workshop, we’ll transform an entire room at the Waterside Women’s Centre into a giant camera obscura.

πŸ‘οΈ From inside the room, you’ll be able to watch the world go by on Spencer Rd, with views stretching up towards Ebrington β€” seeing the outside world reflected inside the room. πŸŒ³πŸ˜οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš—

It’s a chance to slow down and look at a familiar shared space in a completely different way β€” noticing the people, movement, buildings and green spaces that surround us. πŸŒΏπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ™οΈ

🀝 Connecting people & shared spaces

This connects to the heart of Waterside Together: exploring how shared spaces can bring people together and encouraging us to see the places around us in new ways.

πŸ”„ By turning our view of the outside world inside, we’ll be thinking about the connections between people, communities and the shared spaces that sit between them.

πŸ“Έ And we'll be making pinhole cameras too!

As part of our Intergenerational Photography Programme, participants will make their own pinhole cameras and use them to create photographs, experimenting with the same basic principles of light and image-making. ✨

🌿 Looking Back at the Waterside Together Shared Green Spaces Festival 🌿

We're excited to share this wonderful video looking back at the recent Waterside Together Festival weekend at Woodburn Urban Park.

Captured by videographer Sean Γ“g Morrow , this video showcases the fun, friendship and community spirit that made the weekend such a memorable celebration. From circus activities with In Your Space Circus, Qi Gong sessions with Feel Free Tai Chi, bug hotel and wind chime making with The Conservation Volunteers, rhymes and games with An CultΓΊrlann, yoga for children with Michael, community singing with Music Kin, a special live performance by a group of young people who participated in the Waterside Together-Nerve Centre Music Hothouse, to amateur baking competition for children and adults judged by Laurent Pirone of Oui Bakery, barbecue, ice cream and plenty of opportunities to connect, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The festival was all about bringing people together and celebrating our shared green spaces. As a cross-community initiative, Waterside Together helps reimagine local parks and open spaces as welcoming, inclusive places where everyone can come together, build relationships and enjoy the outdoors.

A huge thank you to all of our facilitators and performers, to for putting on a great show! and for our volunteers and everyone who joined us over the weekend and helped make it such a success.

Waterside Together is kindly supported by the PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), and delivered by Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership.

Looking for a meaningful and creative activity to share this summer?

Join renowned puppeteer Karen Torley of Banyan Theatre for a magical week of shadow puppetry, storytelling, and creativity in this special intergenerational workshop programme.

Designed for children aged 7–12, this workshop is all about creating together. Children attend alongside a parent, guardian, grandparent, or another special adult in their life, making it a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together, learn new skills, and create lasting memories through art and storytelling.

Whether it's mum, dad, granny, grandad, an aunt, uncle, family friend, or another trusted grown-up, you'll work side-by-side to design puppets, invent stories, and bring them to life through shadow theatre.

🌟 Design & build your own shadow puppets
🌟 Learn animation and performance techniques
🌟 Explore light, colour, and visual storytelling
🌟 Create an original shadow theatre piece together
🌟 All materials provided
🌟 No experience necessary

This year's performance will explore themes of good relations, green spaces, community, and coming together, celebrating the connections that make our neighbourhoods stronger and more welcoming places for everyone.

πŸŽͺ The week will culminate in a special public performance at Woodburn Urban Park β€” home to many much-loved Waterside Together events and activities. Families, friends, and the wider community will be invited to attend and see what participants have created throughout the week, making it a truly memorable celebration of creativity, connection, and collaboration.
