Hello, I’m Inspector Dan Gahagan. I’m the Local Policing Unit Inspector for Derby West, which covers the areas of Normanton, Rosehill, Littleover, Mickleover, and Abbey. This is my quarterly update on policing in these areas.

Since my last update, my response teams have been working hard to deliver the policing services of responding to incidents and investigating crime. Clearly, we want to reduce crime but for those crimes that are reported to us, it is important that victims get the service they deserve. I’m pleased to report we have seen an increase in victim satisfaction over the last 12 months, and this is an area we will continue to look to improve upon.

The Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) have been working against the agreed policing priorities for each of the 5 policing areas within Derby West. We have seen positive results in supporting Project Flex (the Clear, Hold, Build project in the city), positive results relating to individuals persistently causing harm within the LPU area, and continue to work positively with partners to ensure a collaborative approach to getting long term solutions to problems.

I am pleased to report an increase in persons stop searched in the area, predominantly from our SNT officers. We have also seen a reduction in acquisitive crime, and this is supported by the divisional Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team (NACT). Within that, we have seen an increase in the positive outcomes achieved for reported Residential Burglary and Shop Theft.

I have agreed on the policing priorities for the second quarter of 2026, and these can be found by following this link: Your area | Derbyshire Constabulary. These priorities have been agreed by me following consultation with our partners, in view of crime/ASB data, and what we know from our communities. These priorities are reviewed and set every 3 months, so if you feel that we should focus on something for the 3rd quarter (starting 1st July 2026), please do let us know.

As I’m sure, like me, many of you are looking forward to the longer days and brighter evenings with the clocks having changed, with this brings the likelihood of an increase in Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). My teams will focus on targeting and reducing this and will respond to reports as appropriate.

Whilst this is the case, I do encourage reporting of ASB, as timely and accurate reporting gives us the information that we need to target resources, identify repeat problem locations and/or individuals, and take proportionate action in partnership with other agencies.

Parents/Guardians play an important role, and I encourage that the whereabouts of young people are known by parents/guardians. I also support parents/guardians in having positive conversation about acceptable behaviour and the impact on communities when behaviour falls short.

Whilst this is not exhaustive, I hope it encourages positive conversation on how we can all impact reducing ASB.

Whilst contact with us in an emergency remains via telephoning 999, we have several options available for contacting us when not an emergency. These can be found on the following link: Contact us | Derbyshire Constabulary.

📢 Important announcement! Did you know that if you give your hot cross buns a quick slice down the middle, put them back in the bag and straight into the freezer they'll stay fresh for much longer? You can then pop them into the toaster as they are, and slather them with as much butter as you like.

No stale buns on our watch 🫡

Anyone able to help this great community organisation?

Good morning everyone! 🌱

We’re looking for any local tree surgeons who might have some wood chip?

Unfortunately as we use this to go on our paths we can’t have anything with thorns or conifer.

Please get in touch!!

Many thanks x
