It is with deep sorrow that Remember My Baby (RMB) announces that Cheryl Johnson passed away on Saturday 2nd May.
Cheryl, a co-founder of Remember My Baby, was a Trustee until January 2026. She chaired the board of trustees from RMB’s inception until 2022 and remained RMB’s most dedicated and prolific Volunteer Photographer.
Cheryl’s journey into remembrance photography was ignited by a poignant moment when she encountered a precious Polaroid photograph of a beloved baby in a friend's home. Touched by the power of that single photograph, she approached her local hospital, offering her services to provide remembrance photography to grieving parents. Over the years, Cheryl connected with countless families, providing solace and support in their moments of grief.
In 2014, Cheryl played a pivotal role as part of the team in the launch of Remember My Baby, becoming a driving force behind the expansion of remembrance photography services for parents facing baby loss throughout the UK. Managing a substantial team of volunteer photographers in the London area and home counties, she tirelessly represented RMB at industry events, recruiting and training volunteers to extend the organisation's reach.
A respected figure, Cheryl was a frequent keynote speaker at bereavement conferences and study days, where her heartfelt words often moved health professionals to tears. Under her leadership, RMB's presence in maternity and neonatal units flourished, providing invaluable support to grieving families.
Throughout the years, Cheryl has captured priceless moments for hundreds of families, and the impact of RMB's volunteer photographers has touched the lives of thousands since its inception. In 2019, Cheryl ‘s unwavering dedication was acknowledged with the prestigious British Empire Medal, a testament to her exceptional service to bereaved parents.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, two grown-up sons, and the beloved family pug, Alfie. Beyond her immediate family and friends, she leaves behind a vibrant photographic and baby loss community that will sorely miss her warm presence and profound contributions. May her legacy bring comfort and healing to those whose lives she touched.
Cheryl is deeply missed already and will never be forgotten.
