Derwent Stepping Stones was established in 1988 by a group of local women who found they were unable to return to work due to the lack of affordable childcare in the Derwent area. Derwent Stepping Stones was Derby’s first Community Business. A Community Business is a Company Limited by guarantee and a voluntary organisation, this means we report to both the Charities Commission and Companies House. Over the years we have developed as an organisation in line with what local people need.
