Thank you to everyone who watched, shared, and joined the conversation after we posted our new wood burning animation last week. 💚

If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth two minutes: what actually happens to air quality (in the home, and for neighbours) when we burn wood or solid fuel.

New PM, new chance for clean air, and we're asking Andy Burnham to deliver a Clean Air Act that protects everyone's health.

Air pollution is linked to the equivalent of 30,000 deaths across the UK every year, and is the second leading risk factor for death in children under five. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Pick a postcard design, add your own message if you'd like, and it goes straight to No.10. Takes about two minutes!

Please share this - the more people who see it and take part, the more postcards will end up on the PM's desk!

What do you want your children to breathe?

The diesel scandal lives on - our data analysis shows there are still more than 7 million diesel cars on our roads emitting thousands of tonnes of excess pollution every year.

Since 2009, there have been 30,000 new cases of childhood asthma in the UK because of excess diesel emissions. In the US and Germany, action was taken against manufacturers. Here? Next to nothing.

Watch our film on the impact of diesel emissions on children's lungs, then take part in our email campaign demanding action. It takes two minutes: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/act-now-to-protect-children-from-toxic-diesel

Please share this far and wide!

A US study has shown that swapping a gas stove and hob for an electric one leads to strong health benefits for those with asthma.

Researchers found the improvement in asthma symptoms matched, or even beat, that seen in clinical trials of commonly used asthma medications.

Have you swapped your gas hob for an induction one? If you have, let us know whether you've noticed a difference.

Team in Ohio finds swapping to electric has ‘very large’ impact, despite study being scaled back by Trump cuts

We've created a short animation exploring what happens when we burn wood and solid fuels at home, with researcher Dr Mathy Sannasi of Royal Holloway University and visual storytellers Nifty Fox Creative.

Spoiler alert: burning releases large amounts of tiny, invisible air pollution particles into our homes and neighbourhoods. These particles are small enough to move from the lungs into the bloodstream, reaching organs throughout the body, damaging our health.

Please watch and share with anyone who might find it useful. Summer is often when stoves are installed, ahead of winter.

Children in England's poorest areas are 40% more likely to be hospitalised with respiratory illness than children in the wealthiest areas, with air pollution a significant risk factor.

This is shameful - and it's the world we're trying to change, one campaign at a time.

We recently wrote to the Greater Manchester Mayoral candidates with our asks for cleaner air. Geraldine Coggins (Green Party) is the first to respond:

"I completely agree that clean air is a basic right, and that no child's health should be determined by where they live. As Green Party candidate for Mayor, I will put climate, nature and public health at the heart of every decision I make."

We're very pleased to hear this commitment, because clean air isn't a nice-to-have, it's a basic need for every child in Greater Manchester. The recent wildfires have put this topic front and centre for many.

We've put the same asks to other candidates, and we'd love to be able to share their commitments too, before next Thursday's election.

If you haven't already sent your postcard, there's still time - fill out your name and we'll post one for you! bit.ly/gm-postcards-2026

New PM, new chance for clean air!

Last week our Greater Manchester volunteers watched wildfire smoke drift across the region - and no one was telling parents how to keep their kids safe. So we went to the press about it. "Families can see the smoke, they can smell it, and they can taste it," our GM Coordinator Liz said. Within hours, her words were picked up by local and national outlets.

Liz spoke up on behalf of thousands of people across Greater Manchester - and now here’s a chance for us all to speak up, with our new postcard campaign.

There's a new Prime Minister in Downing Street, and we're asking him to deliver a Clean Air Act that protects everyone's health. Air pollution is linked to the equivalent of 30,000 deaths across the UK every year, and is the second leading risk factor for death in children under five. We shouldn't have to accept this.

We've made it as easy as possible to add your voice. Pick a postcard design, add your own message if you'd like, then it goes straight to Andy Burnham at No.10. Takes about two minutes!

If you're part of a local group or page, we'd love it if you shared this - the more people who see it, the harder this is to ignore.

Andy Burnham is our new Prime Minister, and he has the opportunity to deliver a new Clean Air Act that protects the health of everyone. Send him a postcard today and ask him to make clean air a priority.
