Why this? Why now? Why you?

Food prices rise. Real wages decline. Nature collapses. Communities deprived. The long list of crises grows: cost-of-living, climate, health, loneliness, unemployment, inequality, discrimination, immigration, genocides, propaganda, the rise of the far-right.

No one is coming to save us
yet together we have all
that we need!

With keys to an empty shop, we co-designed our hub, raised funds to build a kitchen, launched a community fridge, acquired a micro-farm and with you, we grew a village. Then due to renovations we moved everything out. So what now?

How can TMV's hub and wider networks best help our communities thrive through crises?

We invite you all to join us in sharing our harvests- our hopes, concerns, ideas, interests, skills, experience, perspectives and passions, in the belief that when we do we feed the roots of the radical changes we choose.

See you Saturday 27th June

Great Big Green Derby! πŸŒ±πŸ…πŸͺ

Derby is on the way to becoming a Sustainable Food Place and Monday was a major milestone.

We spent the afternoon with inspiring partners from across the city, facilitated by Adam and Andrea from the Soil Association, working toward a shared vision for a healthier, greener and more connected Derby food system.

The Food Foundation's Broken Plate Report 2026 landed this week. It's sobering:

πŸ’° Healthy food costs nearly TWICE as much per calorie as unhealthy food

🍽️ Fewer than 1 in 10 teenagers eat their five a day

🌏 Our food system is decarbonising half as fast as the rest of the economy

This is exactly why the work matters.

At Thrivemind Village we're passionate to be part of the solution whilst knowing systems change takes all of us. Rescuing food from waste, growing organically, and building zero emission food distribution across the city.

FRIENDS OF THE DERWENT 🌊

🌍 For Great Big Green Week, we're honoured to promote this inspiring and unique event next Thursday

The River Derwent flows right through our city. Rising in the Peak District, it's sustained communities for millennia, home to otters, kingfishers and dippers, and the life of the shire.

Yet it's been ranked the 5th most polluted river in England and Wales.

That's why we're hosting Friends of the Derwent's River Pilgrimage Celebration: a free evening of citizen science, poetry, ritual, and song. 🐟

Thursday 18 June : 7pm
39 Iron Gate, Derby city centre

This event also marks the beginning of our Reimagining TMV season.

Come help us reclaim our river β€” and our commons.

Meet at the river gardens at 6 for singing

Free & open to all.

FROM SURPLUS TO SOIL 🌱

If ever food doesn't get taken from our fridge, we don't bin it β€” we compost it πŸ₯•πŸ

Volunteers take it to our Future Farm at Little Chester Allotments where it goes straight into our compost bays.

Food in landfill isn't just waste β€” it's the 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases on the planet and if it were a country it would rank behind only the US and China.

But in a compost bay?

That same food becomes rich, living soil, ready to grow more good food next season.

Waste becomes resource. Landfill becomes harvest.

This is what a good food commons looks like in practice. One compost caddy at a time. πŸ—‘οΈπŸŒ

VOLUNTEER WEEK πŸ™Œ

Thrivemind Village is a volunteer-led non-profit that depends entirely on the passion, dedication, goodwill, care and expertise of our volunteers.

Since the very beginning, every step, every milestone, every achievement and all the ripples that have spread outwards, transforming the waters we travel, was led and made possible by volunteers.
And why?

Because we know society needs to be different and that no one is coming to save us.
.. we know that by taking action together we can make change.
.. we know that we need each other and that our most fulfilling times come from sharing a greater sense of purpose.
.. we know our lives are richer, healthier, more connected, inspired and nourished by doing things we care about with thriveminded people.
.. we show up, we contribute, we share, we listen, we move, we create, we express, we question, we learn, we grow.

We 'village'

And a more resilient, thriveable future awaits as a result.
