Interested in joining the Black Health Literacy Advisory Group to help shape new Ofcom Reaserch?

Come along to a short Zoom information meeting on Monday October 12 7:15-8pm to find out more about the project and what being a member of the Black Health Literacy Advisory Group would involve.

We are looking for 3–4 people to join the Advisory Group between 15 October 2026 and 8 January 2027.

We are particularly interested in people with relevant experience or knowledge of Black African and Caribbean communities (including people of mixed or dual heritage), health and wellbeing, community engagement, health inequalities, research, communications or health information/literacy and users of social media. This may come from professional, voluntary, community or lived experience.

At the meeting, we’ll explain the purpose of the project, what Advisory Group members will be asked to contribute, the time commitment and the remuneration offered. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether you would like to take part.

Advisory Group members will be formally recognised and named as members of the project Advisory Group in relevant project correspondence and reporting to Ofcom.

This Black History Month, ROOTS & RHYTHMS: I AM WHO I AM gives children a fun, creative space to explore Black history and culture through stories, music, art, play and discovery, building confidence and pride in who they are.

11am–1pm | Ages 6–8
2–4pm | Ages 9–11

Just 15 places in each session.

WHO CAN JOIN US?

Every child is welcome. We want children to learn together, be curious about one another and discover more about the histories and cultures that shape the world around them.

Because this is a Black History Month event created to help Black children see themselves, their heritage and their stories reflected and celebrated, if a session is oversubscribed, priority will be given to children of Black African and Caribbean heritage, including mixed/dual heritage children.

Children of all other heritages who want to learn, share and explore with us are warmly welcomed.

£3 per child (subsidised places are available if cost is a barrier).

44 years ago today, Kerry Davis MBE made history as the first Black woman to represent England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Across a remarkable 16 year England career, Kerry scored 44 goals in 82 appearances, helping pave the way for generations of Black women in football

Her journey challenged barriers, created visibility and helped so many more players see themselves in an England shirt

A true pioneer whose contribution to English football deserves to be celebrated, remembered and recognised 🥹

Join us during Black History Month to learn more about the Community Health Alliance (CHA), a partnership between Black communities and the NHS in Derby and Derbyshire.

We will share why the CHA was established, how it has been developed and co-produced with communities from the very beginning, and some of the health inequalities experienced by Black communities. We will also discuss the live community engagement program, what happens next with the insights gathered, and how communities, voluntary organisations and professionals can work together to shape the next phase of action and co-production.

Derbyshire Maternity and Health Inequalities Forum Launch, Posters and Registration.

We would like to invite you to the launch event of the Derby and Derbyshire Maternity and Neonatal Health Inequalities Forum. Please see posters attached for sharing.

This new Forum brings together local communities, parents, families, community organisations, healthcare professionals and system leaders to work together to improve maternity and neonatal care and reduce inequalities across Derby and Derbyshire.

Over the past year, women and families from different communities have shared their experiences of maternity and neonatal services. We have listened carefully to what people told us. This event is an opportunity to share what we learned and, most importantly, work together on what happens next.

Why should I get involved?

By joining us, you will:
Hear what local women and families told us through the recent engagement programme
Hear from community groups who helped gather these experiences
Learn about current work taking place across maternity and neonatal services
