DASP will be at The Dr Ambedkar Community Centre, Brunswick St, Derby this Thursday from 11am to 2pm joined by upto 15 information stands who will all support the awareness-raising initiative by Alzheimer's Research UK and the Derby Dementia Champions. Teas/Coffees and refreshments available.

🌼 Dementia Awareness Community Event – Sinfin, Derby 🌼

You’re warmly invited to a free, friendly community event to learn more about dementia, brain health, and local support services.

📅 Thursday 18 December 2025
⏰ 11am – 3pm
📍 Sinfin Community Centre, DE24 9NT

This event is especially designed to support South Asian communities, with health information available in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi.

✨ What’s happening on the day:
• Dementia awareness talks by trained Community Champions
• Information stalls from local health & support organisations
• Brain-health and risk-factor activities
• Gentle yoga & breathing sessions
• Free tea, coffee, and lunch

✨ Celebrating Recognition for DASP Work in the Derby Community ✨

We are humbled and proud to share that the Derby Asian Strategic Partnership (DASP) has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for our contribution as a community connector, as part of the Derby Health Inequalities Partnership (DHIP). 🏆

Last Tuesday, we joined an inspiring evening celebrating Derby’s community connectors. The event was filled with powerful conversations, meaningful networking, and a shared vision: building a fairer, healthier Derby.

At DASP, we are committed to ensuring Derby’s Indian and Pakistani communities have equal access to vital health information and opportunities to live healthy, active lives. Over the past year, we have:
🙏 Facilitated health engagement sessions at local faith & community centres
🗣️ Supported individuals with language barriers and GP access challenges
💡 Empowered people to make informed health decisions

This award belongs not only to us, but also to the communities we proudly serve, whose strength and resilience inspire us daily.

A heartfelt thank you to Derby Health Inequalities Partnership, Derby City Council, and Community Action Derby, for recognising our work and supporting all community connectors across the city.

🗣 Community Voices Matter 🗣

This week, we had the opportunity to conduct the Carers Survey with our local Indian community at the Community Centre. We had some heartfelt conversations, spent meaningful time together, and listened to their views and cultural needs around caregiving.

These kinds of community sessions are incredibly important. They provide carers a safe, judgment-free space to open up, share their struggles, lived experiences, and have their voices heard. 🫶

Carers carry so much responsibility, and they deserve all the support we can offer. Through the Derby Diverse Carers Survey, we’re here to make carers’ lives easier, more supported, and better understood. 🌍❤️

✅ Listening to Carers, Strengthening Communities

This week, we sat down with members of Derby’s Indian community to talk about the challenges and barriers they face in their caring roles. 💬❤️

Through open Group discussions, carers shared their lived experiences, from balancing their own health with caring responsibilities to navigating cultural barriers and accessing the right support.

These honest conversations are at the heart of the Derby Diverse Carers Survey, helping us understand what really matters to carers so that future services are more inclusive, accessible, and supportive.
