A letter for September that has brought me so much relief. πŸ’™

For many children, a class change is simply part of school life. For Kane, it is so much more than that.

It has taken an incredible amount of time, ( 8 months infact ) patience, understanding and consistency for Kane to reach the place he is in now. A place where he feels safe. A place where he feels understood. A place where the adults around him truly know him, his communication, his triggers, his needs and what helps him thrive.

Those who have followed our journey will know how difficult previous transitions have been and how long it took for Kane to settle and trust again. The thought of asking him to start over with a new room, new adults, new peers and new expectations was something I had anxiety, sleepless nights and genuine concerns about,

Today I received confirmation that school have listened.

They have heard my concerns, considered the reasons behind them and recognised that, for Kane, stability is incredibly important. As a result, he will be remaining in his current class with the people who understand him best and who he feels safest with.

And that doesn't stall his progress, infact i believe he will continue to progress because Kane is like me, he needs to believe in those around him and for them to also believe in him, to do more and achieve more. Kane’s achievements may not be of that of children typically his own age, however to us who REALLY know him, each 1 is massive and celebrated that way πŸ™ŒπŸ’œ

As a parent, that means more than I can put into words.

The trust and faith I have in the team around Kane is enormous. They see him for who he is, they celebrate him, they understand him and they support him in a way that allows him to be successful in his own right

Thank you to the school for listening, for understanding and for always putting Kane's needs at the centre of the decision. Sometimes being heard is everything. πŸ’™

We are home from holiday and, somehow, I've managed to keep Kane alive πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

I'll be honest... f%&k knows how.

For the first time in a very long time, I genuinely gasped out loud. ( This is 1 moment of many during the week btw )

The picture below shows the height of the pool ledge he decided to launch himself from after successfully swerving me in pursuit of his favourite thing in the entire world... water. πŸ’¦

This child ran through the water like Jesus walked on it and straight off the edge into the shallow overflow pool below.

Whilst I was having a full-blown heart attack, Kane was completely unphased. Not a flicker of concern. In fact, given half a chance, he would have absolutely done it again.

This is the reality of having a sensory-seeking child. Kane constantly craves movement, impact, jumping, climbing and that sensory feedback. What never ceases to amaze me though is his ability to land. The things he launches himself from and somehow walks away from are beyond comprehension.

The problem is that whilst Kane sees an exciting sensory opportunity, I see eighteen different ways it could end in A&E.

Needless to say, I spent most of the holiday operating on adrenaline, trying to stay one step ahead of a little boy with no sense of danger and Olympic-level escape skills.

As for me? I think I need a holiday to recover from this holiday. πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ’™

Where were you when you found out you'd been accepted for a National Lottery Grant?

Obviously on a beach in Greece... because there seems to be a pattern emerging here! πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

First Kane's diagnosis, and now this. It would seem that important news likes to find me with sand between my toes and the sound of the waves in the background.

But this one hit differently.

For me, this wasn't just about funding. It was recognition.

Recognition that Kane's World Foundation is making a difference.
Recognition that the voices of our families matter.
Recognition that what we are building together has value.

When Kane's World started, it came from a place of need. A place of frustration, exhaustion and wanting something better for families like ours. I never imagined how many people would join us on this journey, or how many incredible children and parents would become part of our village.

To receive support from the National Lottery feels like somebody saying, "We see you. We see what you're doing. Keep going."

This funding means opportunities.
It means more activities.
It means more support.
It means more memories for our families.
It means more children being accepted exactly as they are.

Most of all, it means hope.

Hope that we can continue growing, continue breaking down barriers, and continue creating spaces where our children don't have to change who they are to belong.

I am incredibly proud of what we've built so far, but even more excited about what's still to come.

To every family who has trusted us, supported us, attended an event, shared a post, volunteered, donated or simply cheered us on from the sidelines... thank you. This belongs to all of us. πŸ’œ

What a beautiful chapter in an already beautiful journey.

It's Official πŸ’™

Where were you when you got the news?

I was sat on a beach in Greece.

The irony is, we already knew. Years of assessments, observations, meetings and reports had all pointed us to the same conclusion. Yet when the words are finally spoken out loud and made official, it still hits differently.

It's such a strange mix of emotions.

Relief, because there is clarity. Validation, because everything you've fought to explain has finally been recognised. Gratitude, because people have listened.

But also emotion. Lots of it.

Even when you've known in your heart for years, hearing it formally can feel like you're hearing it for the very first time. It makes you reflect on the journey, the challenges, the battles, the victories, and everything your child has overcome to get to this point.

Nothing about Kane changed in that moment. He is still the same incredible little boy he was the day before. The diagnosis doesn't define him.

But it does provide answers. It provides understanding. And for families like ours, that clarity matters more than words can explain.

So today, whilst watching the waves roll in, I allowed myself to feel all of it. The relief. The pride. The sadness for the struggles he's faced. The hope for what's still to come.

And most of all, the overwhelming love I have for my boy.

It's official.

Kane is autistic.

The labels may now be on paper, but they have never defined who Kane is. He is, and always will be, simply Kane. πŸ’™

Well, we are a few days into our holiday and what can I say... this hotel is absolutely phenomenal! πŸŒžπŸ’™

One member of the management team in particular, Irene, has been incredible. From the moment we arrived, she has done everything possible to understand Kane's needs and support our family. She even upgraded us to a family suite to make us more comfortable. The kindness, understanding and genuine care she has shown us has been beyond anything we could have expected. She really has gone above and beyond, and we are so grateful.

We've had a few teething problems with the lifeguards understanding Kane's unique swimming style 🀣 but we got there in the end! Thankfully, they have been willing to listen and learn, which makes such a difference.

The water park, however... that's another story! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Twenty minutes after arriving, Kane somehow managed to get past me, his dad, Evelyn AND two lifeguards before launching himself down a slide he is probably about 2ft too small for. Standard Kane behaviour really! If there is a challenge, he'll find it.

The funny thing is, whilst most children would be obsessed with the water park, Kane is happiest down at the beach. No slides, no noise, no chaos. Just the sound of the sea, the sand beneath his feet and the freedom to be himself. Watching him completely content and regulated, simply enjoying the peace, has been beautiful.

Travelling with a child who has complex additional needs is never easy. It takes military-level planning, preparation and a million contingency plans. But seeing him happy, relaxed and enjoying himself makes every bit of it worthwhile. πŸ’™

Now if we can just stop him finding ways to give everyone a heart attack for the rest of the week, that would be lovely... πŸ€£πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ
