Whitworth Thread 5k

Whitworth Thread 5k This is the official page for the Whitworth Thread 5k run held at Whitworth Park, Darley Dale, on the second Saturday of every month. When is it? Who is it for?

Welcome to the facebook of the Whitworth Thread 5km, held in Whitworth Park, Darley Dale, Matlock. Every second Saturday of the month at 9am. Anyone!!! - our oldest competitor so far is 78 years with our youngest being a 3 year old toddling around with her dad! These events are for everyone. Just turn up and enjoy yourself. Whether your a regular runner or always wanted to get that little bit fitt

er. You can jog all 3 laps, or choose to do less (2 or 1 lap) and even walk the route as that first step towards improving your fitness and general well-being. Month by month you set your own target and try to improve it. You'll be caught up with the enthusiasm of others and the atmosphere within the park - so much easier than running alone. What do I need? Running shoes and a Β£1 to register for the first time, then every event is free. We have an optional voluntary donation for charity every month. Over the years donations have raised over Β£7,000 for good causes. If you'd like to nominate a charity please get in touch. What's the route? Our run is entirely within the Whitworth Park and based around a 3 lap course. The route is pure tarmac, with short downhill and uphill sections making the most of the criss-cross network of pathways for you to "thread" your way around. Marshals are dotted at various points leaving you free to concentrate and enjoy your run. There's no obligation to run the whole of the route - set your own targets and try your best.

Thank you to John for marshalling today and for these photos from marshalling point near the top of the pond 😁

Boring Admin Post!

We have been busy little bees tidying up our emails and competitor lists over the past month.

This means anyone who hasn't taken part since before December 2024 won't be saved in our competitor list and won't get an email reminder/results from us.

With fewer email addresses and competitor details to handle it's quicker for us each month to organise the Thread. Hopefully with fewer bounce backs, when your email provider thinks we are spam.

If you think this might be you, please know you are welcome back at any time.

Please email [email protected] with your date of birth, or just come along on Saturday and re-register (for free).

Thank-you
