A really productive evening at the 4x4 Response SE Wales monthly meeting.
We covered a lot of ground, including updates on our new handheld radio communications, the rollout of our improved management system for tracking member training and development, and new tools to support response coordination and situation management.
We also spent time forward‑planning the many events we’ve committed to over the coming months.
Huge thanks to everyone who attended and contributed — great teamwork as always.

Speaking of Specialist training... 4x4 Response groups train for the type of call out they are likley to attend. For example, Northants 4x4 Response have their own Swift Water Rescue team. They have completed and continually practice skills for DEFRA Flood Rescue MOD 3. This means they can be called upon to assist Ambulance HART, Fire & Rescue and HM Coastguard during flooding. Other groups have volunteers who have Completed DEFRA MOD 1 & 2 allowing them to assist in standing water or "Bank Side" during floods.

We may be tasked with filling, hauling and setting up sand bags and temporary dams, set up and enforce road closures for the Police and councils, help with the evacuation of affected homes, or transport key staff and Emergency Service workers through flood waters.

Having Volunteers from a wide range of careers gives the ability to train for various scenarios. We have Paramedics and EMTs providing First Aid and AED training, and AA/RAC Recovery Drivers who can explain how to professionally recover all manner of vehicles. Everyone has their own, unique expertise from their personal & professional life to teach others.

Another way for groups to fundraise is to take on different roles at events, in exchange for donations from the event organisers.

You may see us helping to set up, work and clear down different races, from marathons, fun runs, cycle races to Motorsport Rallys. We might be called upon to set up road closures, directional signage and water stations, staff said road closures and water stations, provide marshalling to participants, pick up those who drop out or have been injured and then clear up the event site before handing back to land owners.

Our volunteers work at most Cancer Research UK Race for Life & Pretty Muddy events throughout the UK. We are on site to open up with staff, and stay until everything is cleared and the organisers are ready to finish. We spend more time on site than any other contractor.

Across South East Wales

Over the last few weeks, our volunteers at 4x4 Response South Wales have been hard at work supporting the incredible team at Tenovus Cancer Care and their Mobile Support Units.

Each day, our responders have been transporting the large trailer‑based generators to treatment sites across South East Wales, ensuring the units have the power they need to deliver vital cancer treatments closer to home. At the end of each day, we return the generators safely to the secure storage facility—ready to go again the next morning.

This has been, and continues to be, a significant commitment for our volunteers… but as always, our teams rise to the challenge. Responders from across South Wales have pulled together brilliantly to make this happen, showing exactly what community support looks like in action.

4x4 Response SE Wales and Endurance UK — Event Support in Style

What a fantastic day supporting Endurance UK at their equestrian event. Our volunteer responders were out across the course providing marshaling, safety cover, and venue support — the kind of quiet, reliable presence that keeps events running smoothly.

And we can’t not mention the star attraction at the venue control point…
One of our members arrived in his classic MG, which drew almost as much attention as the horses themselves. A proper crowd‑pleaser and a brilliant talking point for visitors and riders alike.

Celebrating Our Volunteers
- Dedicated responders giving their time and skills
- Professional, friendly support throughout the event
- A team that shows up whatever the terrain, weather, or challenge

We’re incredibly proud of every volunteer who represented 4x4 Response SE Wales. Your commitment is what makes partnerships like this possible.

🌟 Volunteering Your Time Makes a Real Difference 🌟
At 4x4 Response SE Wales, every mile we drive and every hour we give is powered by volunteers — people from our own communities who choose to step up when others need support.

Whether it’s helping during severe weather, supporting local events, or being on standby for emergency partners, our team is built on one simple idea: your time can change someone’s day for the better.

🚙 What Being a Volunteer Looks Like
- Monthly meetings where we catch up, plan ahead, and stay connected as a team
- Regular training sessions covering driving skills, safety, comms, navigation, and real‑world scenarios
- Opportunities to support your community during challenging conditions
- A friendly, supportive group of people who love helping others

You don’t need specialist experience — just a willingness to learn, a reliable 4x4, and a desire to make a difference.

💛 Want to Get Involved?
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering your time, meeting new people, or putting your vehicle and skills to good use, we’d love to hear from you. Drop us a message or come along to one of our monthly meetings to see what we’re all about.

Your time. Your skills. Your community.
Together, we keep SE Wales moving.

What We Do When the Weather Is Good! 🌤️
