A fantastic 18” wild Afan brownie netted by club member Craig Ridsdale. With plenty of water in the river after the rain over the last few days, the river is starting to fish very well.

In partnership with the Angling Trust - the club has purchased a water quality testing kit.

The Angling Trust Water Quality Monitoring Network was launched in May 2022 as part of the Anglers Against Pollution campaign to engage anglers and angling clubs in better understanding pollution issues on their waters.

Congratulations to AVACC member Dion Lloyd who landed three beautiful wild Afan brown trout on the weekend.

After what feels like the longest winter ever…it’s finally opening day for the 2026 season on the Afan.

The river is still running high after the endless rain so please be prepared if you’re heading out onto the river today.

We’ve worked incredibly hard over the years to improve habitat and access to the river for migratory fish, and slowly but surely they’re returning to the Afan in greater numbers.

Two weeks until the season opens on the Afan!

In just two weeks (March 3rd) some of the best wild brown trout rivers in Wales will be open for fishing!

Before you rush to the water it helps to ensure that you’re fully prepared – doing some groundwork goes a long way.

Natural Resources Wales has today published the first country-level assessment of Welsh terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments.

Unsurprisingly, the assessment is extremely concerning for Wales’s freshwater habitats and species. And for fish in particular, this report gives no relief from the already depressing assessments made for Wales’s salmon and sewin populations.
