Volunteers at Abronhill Regeneration Forum were out again today keeping our streets tidy. Thanks as always to Councillor Adam Smith - Cumbernauld East who continues to be a huge supporter. Thank you also to a few new faces who came along to help. We appreciate it!

Also a thank you to the gentleman in Ash Road who donated a box of disposable gloves, it’s little gestures like this that go a long way.

Also a separate photo from our May pick as I forgot to post it 😀.

Our next litter pick will be Sunday 12th July, extra help is always welcomed.

Forest Road closure - 17th June to 1st July

A road closure will be in place for Forest Road, between the petrol station and Blackthorn Roundabout, from Wednesday 17th June until Wednesday 1st July. The road will close in two phases and only in one direction at a time, and this should alleviate some of the previous concerns about traffic volumes and road safety.

This closure is to allow a puffin pedestrian crossing to be installed for the new housing development, near to where the underpass has been sealed. Another pedestrian crossing will be installed further south on Forest Road at a later date, along with a new roundabout.

Larch Road restrictions - 1st June

There will be no waiting and loading restrictions in effect at Larch Road in Abronhill on Wednesday 1st June, from 9:15am until 3:30pm. These restrictions will be in place to allow inspection to take place to the telecoms equipment on the church bell tower.

These restrictions apply to the taxi rank and lane nearest the shopping centre often used for pick-ups, drop-offs, deliveries, and parking. The restrictions will only be in place while signposted.

I have also raised concerns about the condition of the road surface in Larch Road, particularly at the entrance to Larch Court. Repairs are currently planned to take place next month, but I have asked that these be progressed as soon as possible.

Energen Biogas Wardpark complaints

Following my recent post about an offensive odour coming from the Energen Biogas facility in Wardpark, I have received further complaints from local residents. I contacted the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) again to ask if they would be willing to attend a public meeting about this issue and they have declined to do so. SEPA has advised this remains a live investigation and they will continue to review how the facility is operating and may need to take further action.

I know this has been going on for a long time, and disrupting Whitelees residents in particular, but it is important that everyone reports concerns to SEPA whenever they occur so they understand the extent of the problem and the local impact. Please report all occurrences of offensive odour believed to be coming from Energen Biogas, directly to SEPA at: https://www2.sepa.org.uk/EnvironmentalEvents. I will continue to escalate the concerns of local residents until this matter is resolved.
