RM Partners is mapping local support for people affected by cancer.

They are inviting voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to take part in a short survey that will help shape the future of cancer support.

By sharing what you currently offer, you’ll play a key role in building a clearer picture of local provision and identifying where new partnerships or services could make a real difference.

RM Partners is especially keen to hear from groups delivering or interested in:

Community-based prevention and recovery support — outreach, awareness, recovery activities
Exercise and physical activity — classes, walking groups, movement sessions
Nutrition and dietary information — healthy eating guidance, cooking sessions
Peer support and coffee mornings — informal meetups, shared lived‑experience support
To***co cessation support — stop‑smoking groups or advice
Wellbeing sessions — mindfulness, relaxation, emotional wellbeing

Your input will help them understand what’s already happening, highlight gaps, and uncover opportunities to strengthen support for people affected by or at risk of cancer.

You'll also hear from healthcare practitioners and professionals who explain common symptoms, available support and ways to better understand this important stage of life.

You are warmly invited to join your Local Community Partnership in Croydon South West. The area includes the Purley, Woodcote, Riddlesdown, Purley Oaks, Sanderstead, Kenley, Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon communities.

This locality-based event will focus on:
• Developing the detail within our Community Plan to achieve the outcomes identified by the Local Community Partnership.
• Establishing smaller, task-related Action Groups that use local knowledge and expertise to achieve real change.
• Turning words into action.

The strength and effectiveness of each Local Community Partnership is totally dependent on how inclusive and representative the group is. So, active citizens, voluntary and community sector organisations, council, health workers, police, schools, etc., are all strongly encouraged to attend.

This week we are celebrating Volunteers’ Week!

Volunteers give their time, skills and energy to play a key part to help deliver community services - such as our Croydon Together Night Shelter.

With the support of our wonderful volunteers, we were able to run Croydon Together Night Shelter.

Volunteers, like those pictured, helped set up the shelter space and keep it clean, cooked, welcomed guests, made teas and coffees, socialised, and helped guests to set up their space.

Another volunteer, Helga, said: "I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this journey, and also to have others become part of mine. It has truly been an honour and a privilege.

This experience has reminded me that difficult circumstances can happen to anyone. Life challenges, stress, and unexpected situations can change a person’s path, and that is why compassion, kindness, and community matter so much.

It has been inspiring to witness resilience - to see people continue to fight, rebuild, and keep moving forward despite challenges. It has also been inspiring to see a community come together every single day with support, care, and humanity.

I will carry these experiences with me, and I am deeply thankful for everything I have learned and for everyone I have met along the way."

Pre-Summit Manifesto published!

In the lead-up to this month’s Croydon Summit, we’re presenting the Croydon VCFSE Manifesto, carrying profiles of how VCFSE organisations in Croydon are reshaping delivery models – and connecting local people into a bold new vision for the borough.

That vision takes Government agendas and runs with them, asserting that aims to build stronger communities and empower people to take back control are best held by those communities – and owned by local people. This is what Croydon’s local VCFSE sector excels in – showing how empowerment, prevention and social cohesion can be lived out in practice.

The Manifesto profiles a sample of local VCFSE partners with distinct strengths across youth engagement, healthy communities, older people, mental health, violence against women and girls, food poverty, homelessness and arts/culture. Informing a debate that we’ll pick up at the Summit, the Manifesto invites us to think creatively about Croydon’s future – and how we engage all our communities in shaping it.
