There are appropriate staffing structures for each day care hub including full time coordinators, specialist team leaders, and fully trained project workers – all closely monitored and supervised. Together they meet the combined educational, leisure and care needs of participants and provide a safe, secure environment. Individual planning:
We increase the opportunities for our learners to make informed lifestyle choices. Our friendly team works closely with our learners in updating their Person-Centred Plans, Health Action Plans, Hospital Passports and activity schedules. Educational and leisure activities
Our educational activities are designed to enable young people with learning disabilities to become more independent and play an active role within their local community. Our specialist trainers deliver short courses and workshops in Makaton sign language, information and technology skills, and literacy and numeracy (in partnership with specialist further education providers). Presentation skills development
We organise confidence-building exercises – including how to use eye contact, movements, gesture and voice – to improve our learners’ skills in public speaking and standing up before an audience
Drama, music & art:
Learners develop their technical skills, improve the quality of their movement, and use their imaginations through regular creative sessions. Food and nutrition
We organise cooking sessions for our learners to help them improve their skills and become more independent in looking after themselves. We emphasise the importance of nutrition and healthy lifestyles and build learners’ confidence through accomplishing basic tasks in a specially equipped kitchen. Sport and fitness
There is a strong emphasis on sport and physical exercise. Learners participate in a range of sports and fitness classes including football, swimming, gym, and yoga. Football is particularly important and the highly competitive Apasen United plays in different leagues. Day trips:
Learners plan quarterly trips outside of London to familiarise themselves with areas beyond their local environment – and widen their opportunities for social and leisure activities. Sensory:
Our sensory rooms offer a nurturing, person-centred environment. We use the rooms to facilitate relaxation, sensory awareness, communication, activity tolerance, and general awareness of the self, peers, and the environment. Employment opportunity:
We support people with learning disabilities to improve their life skills, build their self-confidence, and achieve greater independence. We take adults through a journey of skills development that can lead to work with employers who are recruiting people with learning disabilities. Travel training:
Learners are trained in road safety and how to use public transport to build confidence and self-awareness during travelling – leading to greater independence. We also support those who are eligible to take driving lessons and help them prepare for the driving theory test
