After a decade in arbitrary detention, Ahmed Douma has been sentenced for another year on ‘false news’ charges. His crime? Publishing an article about the impact of unjust imprisonment on state stability, and a social media post that criticized detention conditions.

This was politically motivated. Egyptian authorities must release Ahmed and put an end to their misuse of the criminal justice system against him.

Fear, division and hatred are becoming normalised.

But the scapegoating of migrants isn’t normal, and it isn’t fair.

Those who try to divide us are hoping we’ll stay silent.

But they’re wrong.

Because when we come together, we’re stronger - just like this England squad stepping onto the pitch tonight.

This team represents what it looks like when people from all walks of life and backgrounds stand side by side. This team shows the power of focusing on what unites us, rather than what sets us apart.

That same spirit is appearing across the country, in communities everywhere, people are choosing kindness over hate.

Whether its small acts of kindness or big stands against the powerful, its not just you – millions of us want a society built on kindness and free from hate.

And just like cheering on England, we know that when we stand side by side, we can achieve something bigger than ourselves.

🚨The recent images of Dr. Hussam Abu Safyia are shocking evidence of Israel's abuse against Palestinian detainees.

Dr. Abu Safyia has been arbitrarily detained for one and a half years without charges, while being physically abused and denied healthcare.

His recent solitary confinement adds a further layer of concerns over his deteriorating health. Dr. Abu Safyia must be immediately and unconditionally released. Israel must release all Palestinians arbitrarily detained. States must pressure Israel to stop abusing Palestinian prisoners.

At our next meeting on Monday 15th June Amnesty’s country coordinator for Afghanistan will speak to us about the rights and situation of women in Afghanistan and a speaker from the charity Ascend will talk about their work that empowers Afghan girls through physical training—specifically mountaineering—and community service. All welcome!

The Taliban continues to violate the human rights of women and girls through a new decree that entrenches child marriage in law - making an already dismal situation even worse for them.

The decree addresses the circumstances in which women and girls can seek marriage separation.
It strips them of their autonomy and gives males relatives control of their marital arrangements.
It provides limited possibilities of challenging forced unions.
It institutionalizes and normalizes child marriages.

This must stop. The international community through diplomatic pressure and principled engagement with the Taliban de facto authorities, must demand reversal of all draconian laws in Afghanistan.

The cross-party House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee has concluded the government should terminate NHS England's contract with Palantir - citing the company "supporting highly controversial policies and activities."

Palantir has been supplying software to the Israeli military and intelligence services that contribute to Israel’s ongoing genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation in Gaza.

A company profiting from such grave human rights abuses should have no role in our health system or wider public sector.
