Better late than neverโ€ฆ a bit like marathon recovery time ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

A huge congratulations and thank you to our CEO, Matthew Kershaw, for completing the London Marathon in support of our Dementia Garden Appeal for Croydon Health Services ๐Ÿ’™

Matthew not only crossed the finish line, but smashed his fundraising target โ€” raising an incredible ยฃ2,860, almost 150% of his original ยฃ2,000 goal!

Our charity team were also there on the day cheering him on every step of the way ๐Ÿ‘

Every donation will help us create a welcoming and therapeutic outdoor space for patients living with dementia, supporting wellbeing, comfort and connection for patients and their loved ones.

Thank you, Matthew, and thank you to everyone who donated and supported this amazing effort ๐Ÿ’™

Our Chief Executive, Matthew Kershaw, is taking on an incredible challenge this April โ€“ running the London Marathon to support a cause close to all of our hearts ๐Ÿ’™

Heโ€™s raising funds for our Dementia Garden Appeal, helping to create a calm, therapeutic outdoor space for patients living with dementia. A place that offers comfort, safety and moments of connection for patients and their families during what can often be a difficult time.

By taking on 26.2 miles, Matthew is helping to bring this vision to life โ€“ but he canโ€™t do it alone.

Every donation, share or message of support will help us create a space that brings joy, dignity and familiarity to those who need it most.

If you can, please support the appeal and cheer Matthew on as he takes on the marathon ๐Ÿ‘

One of our amazing colleagues is taking on an incredible challenge to support patients and families in our community ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

James Kiamtia-Cooper, Associate Director for Learning Disability and Autism, will be running the Brighton Marathon this April โ€“ a huge 42.2km challenge and his first-ever marathon.

James is raising funds for two local Croydon charities, with half of the proceeds going to Croydon Health Charity. The funds will support our Macmillan nursing team and cancer wellbeing services, helping patients at Croydon University Hospital and across the community who need compassionate care and support during their cancer journey.

The remaining funds will go to Croydon Mencap, supporting their Chill and Chat toddler group for parents of children with a learning disability.

Your support could help families facing some of lifeโ€™s toughest moments receive the care and kindness they need.

If youโ€™d like to support James on his marathon journey, you can donate via his JustGiving page (linked in our bio)

Today our Thirst Responders trolley made its way around the hospital, stopping by Willows, Paediatric Blood Tests, Infection Control and Theatre Admissions (Kenley 2) to deliver refreshments and a moment of appreciation to colleagues working hard across our services.

The initiative is managed by our Health and Wellbeing team, and funded by our hospital charity, helping us bring small moments of support and appreciation directly to our staff on the frontline.

A small gesture that goes a long way, thank you to everyone we met along the way for the warm welcomes and for everything you do for our patients every day.

Weโ€™re proud to fund the introduction of sensory bags in the Emergency Department at Croydon University Hospital โ€” helping make visits calmer and more accessible for autistic patients and people with learning disabilities.

Launched in honour of UK Disability History Month, the sensory bags were co-designed by staff with neurodevelopmental lived experience, alongside Croydonโ€™s specialist Learning Disability and Autism community teams.

Inside each bag, there is...
โ–ช๏ธ Pop-It, textured stress balls and a fidget spinner to support self-regulation
โ–ช๏ธA device charging adaptor
โ–ช๏ธA sunflower lanyard for those with invisible disabilities
โ–ช๏ธCommunication boards to help when speaking is difficult
โ–ช๏ธEar defenders available on request

This project has been made possible thanks to incredible fundraising efforts โ€” including a half marathon and bake sales led by our amazing Associate Director for ICORs, James Kiamtia-Cooper.

By offering sensory bags in both our adult and paediatric EDs, weโ€™re helping reduce distress, improve communication and create a more compassionate experience for everyone.

Croydon Health Charity is committed to supporting initiatives that make healthcare more inclusive. ๐Ÿ’™

We've launched Giving Tuesday to help us bring a little Christmas joy to every patient at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

We're just a small amount away from funding gifts for all patients spending Christmas Day in hospital or receiving care in the community. A donation of just ยฃ5 can fund a gift for a child or vulnerable adult who may be spending Christmas away from home.

Help us make sure no one feels forgotten this Christmas ๐Ÿ’œ
