We have been asked by the organisers of this year’s Royal Highland Show to circulate as widely as we can their policy on the above. I reproduce below an email I received from Katy from the Competitions Department yesterday afternoon for information.

Good Afternoon,

I hope you are well.

With the rising cases of equine influenza, we are looking to circulate the following Royal Highland Show Equine Influenza Policy to our exhibitors.

https://www.royalhighlandshow.org/equine-influenza-policy/

If there is any way you could distribute this information to your members, exhibitors, or anyone else relevant, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your support and assistance.

Kind regards
Katy

The health and welfare of all our equine competitors is at the forefront of our minds and as such, we have been in contact with the Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS) team as how to best reduce the risk of disease outbreak during this year’s Royal Highland Show.

I am passing out this request to our many followers – can any of you help Mr Posnett – his contact details - 07517439255

Dear Mr Roy,
Re: Loweswater Show 1986 – Mr A. J. Posnett (1945–2022)

I hope you do not mind me contacting you.

My father, James Posnett, sadly passed away on 3rd November 2022. He and my mother Frances were very well known for breeding top-class Clydesdales and Shires with supreme bloodlines through the Weaver Stud.

Unfortunately, following the sale of Home Farm, Norley on 20th May 2015, our family lost a very special photograph which meant a great deal to us. It was a large framed silver photograph taken at Loweswater Show in 1986, where my father was Reserve Champion once again with Weaverdale Fiona.

I was wondering whether the Society, or perhaps any members, might possibly have copies of this photograph. Ideally, I would love to obtain three copies if at all possible, as the original has sadly been lost.

It was a wonderful picture of James and Frances doing what they loved most and what they dedicated much of their lives to.

As you may know, the Weaver horses had some remarkable achievements over the years. We sold Weaverdale Sensation to South Africa for £1,000, which was considered a fantastic price at the time. The horse travelled from Bristol to Natal and helped re-establish the Clydesdale breed in South Africa after there had reportedly been none there for around 30 years. It was a tremendous achievement for the family and even enabled us to travel on the QE2 from Southampton.

I also have a 1985 photograph showing my father with Bank End Print, where he was again Reserve Champion, possibly beaten to the top prize by John Young. My father was, I believe, the first Englishman to win in Scotland since 1936, breaking the long Scottish dominance with Weaverdale Baroness in 1982.

In addition, Weaverdale Clarinda and her foal were later sold to Paul Cooper, an American horse breeder in Wisconsin, USA, although unfortunately I do not know the exact year.

I also still have two of James Posnett’s showing trophies from 1986 and 1987, but I am unsure which shows they were won at or which horses were involved. If the Society holds any information regarding these achievements, I would be extremely grateful to learn more.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this message.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,

William Roy Posnett
(James Posnett’s youngest son)

Devon County Show

Festival of the Heavy Horse

A seriously big thank you to the amazing Lyn at Whistlefish for:

1. Sponsoring a fabulous event this week at Devon County Show - a festival and a celebration of all the Heavy Horse breeds.

2. For inviting me to represent the Clydesdale Horse Society at this increasingly popular celebration of Heavy Horses.

3. For setting up a merchandise stand for the present Mrs Roy (thank you Hazel for your support) and I to man for two days - a stand which raised the magnificent sum of £3,120 for the funds of the Clydesdale Horse Society.

4. For looking after Hazel and I so wonderfully well with incredible lunches and fabulous hospitality.

5. For introducing us to some of your fabulous Whistlefush team who were all a complete joy to meet and work with.

And finally to allow me the great privilege and pleasure to say a huge thank you to you, Lyn, personally.

Lyn you are a great ambassador of our wonderful breed through being an enthusiastic owner and breeder. And you are also a staunch, steadfast and magnificent supporter of our Society's work.

We applaud you for your unstinting and unequalled generosity which is beyond our wildest imagining. But not only do we applaud you, we also say to you from the bottom of our hearts and with great gratitude - THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU.
