Drovers' Tryst Walking Festival

Drovers' Tryst Walking Festival Registered Charity SCIO no: SC047728 Walks are enriched by wildlife, plants, trees, history and the company of like-minded people.

Crieff & Strathearn Drovers Tryst annually celebrates the life, work and play of the people who made Crieff the cattle-droving crossroads of Scotland in the 1700s. Guided walks are the core of the festival, ranging from themed easy walks to high level walks in the hills up to an hour away from Crieff.

Wet? A wee bit.
Stunning? Absolutely.

Today’s Tyndrum Pinewoods Wildlife Walk through a rare ecologically functioning Caledonian forest fragment was full of ancient wonder.

The sun came out a few times - and the weather mostly dry, but I liked this shot with the rain and the frog. Discovering the ecology of this forest was a highlight for me.

I hope everyone who took part in this year’s Drovers’ Walking festival has warm, dry feet and some stories to tell.

Do you have a highlight from this year?

A photo from yesterday's Aberuchill Castle Circular Nature Walk, led by Aquila Wildlife & Nature.

All of the group saw buzzards, ravens, red kites, ospreys and a dipper.

Part of the group also saw a golden eagle being warned off by those ravens. Another part of the group saw a kingfisher dart past.

As far as a daunder through nature goes: spectacular!

We're nearly off!

Walk bookings for this year’s Drovers Tryst Festival are now closed.

We hope you’re looking forward to the weekend as much as we are.

A quick reminder for first-timers: the walks set off on time — like clockwork — so please make sure you arrive promptly at your meeting point.

🌿 Clover Leaf Walk – Saturday 16 May
📍 Start: Glenturret Distillery (11:00am)

A relaxed, flexible day of walking.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all route.
It’s a cloverleaf — meaning you can choose:

✔️ One loop (short and easy)
✔️ Two loops (a bit more of a stretch)
✔️ Or all three (the full 14km experience)

Each loop brings you back to the start, so you’re always in control of your day.

Perfect if you:

Haven’t joined the festival before
Are new to the area and want to explore local routes
Want to meet other walkers without committing to a full-day hike
Prefer having options, not pressure

And at the end?

🥃 A free distillery tour and tasting at 4pm if you’d like to join.

No complicated logistics. No long transfers.
Just beautiful local walking, right on your doorstep.

👉 Book your place and come see what the Drovers’ Walking Festival is all about.

A few photos in from the orienteering course that we ran this weekend as part of our safety in hills training weekend.

The weather was chilly, but the information well received by trainees.

It’s all part of running a safe, friendly walking festival that shares our amazing landscape with you.

Have you got your walk tickets yet?

Today’s First Aid training course led by Fred, British Association of Ski Patrollers.

Despite the seriousness subject (and me making 20+ pages of notes), this felt like a fun, calm, practical workshop.

Very grateful for the Drovers' Tryst Walking Festival making this available to community members and walk guides alike: just one way they keep enjoying the hills as safe as possible.

(The other ways include inviting you to join our guided walks, 15th-18th May)
