We never like writing these sort of posts –– there's too much negativity in the world already without us contributing to it. However, we are deeply saddened to see that someone has attacked our apple trees in Castle Park. One of the trees has been fully snapped, and the pole on another one has been broken off.

These trees were planted two years ago by CTC and a group of volunteers who had been on an apple growing course, and since then they have been lovingly watered and tended to. We are so passionate about making Crickhowell look as beautiful as possible, and dedicate much of time towards this goal, so when we seen something like this it is both dispiriting and upsetting.

If you have any information about what may have happened then please contact out Clerk here: [email protected]

Thank you all.

You may have noticed Spring has arrived in Crickhowell! 🌺🌸🌼With the help of a lovely team of volunteers we have been busy planting flowers throughout town –– check out the beautiful wildflowers in Castle Park and on the Garn 😍

If you can spare any time to help us maintain and water the planters do get in touch. Together we can help to keep Crickhowell blooming!

Some great news: we’ve recently been awarded a heritage grant from CADW (the Welsh government’s historic conservation organisation), to instigate preservation and maintenance work on the Castle.

This will involve the removal of invasive vegetation and restoration of any damage this has caused. All being well, this work will begin at the end of the summer, but first of all we need to complete a bat survey.

The bat-experts will be in the Castle Park later this evening, so if you see anyone paying particular interest to the Castle or just HANGING around, it will be them. The second survey is scheduled for 3 June. Diolch!

Big thanks to Shelley, Lynne and Julia for planting in the horse trough today! We'll see how these grow and plant some more if needed.

We’ve been made aware of an exposed iron post beneath the goalposts in Jubilee Park. Thank you to David Barber for bringing this to our attention.

Stephan Butcher from Powys County Council visited the site this morning and has arranged for a contractor to remove the hazard by the end of the week. We’re also pleased to hear that replacement goalposts are being considered.

In the meantime, please ensure children keep clear of the goalpost area. A temporary notice has been put in place to help highlight the issue.

Thank you for your cooperation while this is resolved.

We’re pleased to share an update from Castle Park. The soft pour area has now been refreshed and brought back into a safe, high-quality condition, thanks to the excellent work of our contractor and CTC Castle Park working group.

It’s been great to see the space being enjoyed again over the Easter holidays, with children playing on the equipment and families making the most of the park. That’s exactly what these spaces are for and it’s fantastic to have this area looking and functioning as it should.

There’s always more to do across the town, and maintaining and improving our shared spaces is ongoing work, but it’s important to take a moment to recognise progress when we see it.

Thank you to everyone who values and looks after Crickhowell and the spaces we all share.

🌱Crickhowell Clean & Green – Volunteers Needed 🌱

Last year, volunteers of all ages helped look after and improve our green spaces. Thank you to everyone who got stuck in!

We’re doing it again this year and would love more helping hands. Jobs will include things like planting wildflowers, watering and replanting planters, clearing weeds, and helping care for the apple trees in Castle Park, the Garn and Jubilee Park.

No experience or tools needed - we can provide gloves, tools and garden waste bags.

If you fancy getting outdoors, meeting people, doing something positive for the town and have a few hours to spare during the year, please reply to this post or email us to get involved ([email protected]).

Let’s help keep Crickhowell looking great 🌱🌼🌳
