On behalf of BVSC, Volunteer Centre Bexley were pleased to attend the Bexley Mencap Sports Festival and Community Day at Danson Park on 20th June 2026.

It was fantastic to see so many people come together to enjoy the activities, connect with local services and support Bexley Mencap. Around 200 people attended across the day, with Bexley Mencap raising over £2,269.50 so far, with more still to come from lake-based sports ticket sales and the BBQ/bar.

There was a real interest in flexible volunteering, including opportunities through Community Champions and Women’s and Girls’ Health Champions. We also spoke to one family looking for volunteering opportunities suitable for under-16s, highlighting the need for more accessible routes into volunteering for younger people.

A big thank you to Bexley Mencap for hosting such a welcoming and positive community event.

On the 10th June Women & Girls Health Hubs won the NHS Excellence Award for Patient Involvement and Choice.

As the Outreach Team at the Volunteer Centre delivering this work across Bexley, they're proud to be part of a project that puts women and girls at the heart of healthcare — improving access, raising awareness, and connecting residents to the support they need.

A huge thank you to volunteers, partners, and the women and girls who continue to shape and inspire this work. 💜

This year's week of free webinars, resources, reports and guides is from 22 to 26 June. It's not part of the Small Charity Week programme but an informal and unfunded series of events organised by the smalls themselves, with support from their friends. Its aim is to support and promote the fantastic work of all small charities but anyone and everyone is welcome.

As Small Charity Week comes to an end, there are still four online sessions delivered by Charity Excellence available to join tomorrow using the link below.

As this programme grows across multiple Primary Care Networks, Bexley Buddies aims to reduce pressure on GP services by creating meaningful opportunities for residents to connect, build confidence, and support one another through community-based activities and peer support.

You will work closely with local communities, GP practices, volunteers and NHS partners to develop and coordinate inclusive, participant-led activities that respond directly to local needs, strengthen community resilience, and help reduce health inequalities.

Free Interactive Workshop: Unlocking Your Community’s Hidden Helpers - This free, interactive workshop is designed for volunteer managers, coordinators and anyone involved in recruiting, supporting or developing volunteers.

We are delighted to be joined by Jess Young, Freelance Project Lead with Volunteer Centre Greenwich, who will be leading this session. Jess has recently led practical work on making volunteer recruitment more inclusive and accessible, particularly for people with lived experience of poor mental health.

The session will explore how we can better recognise hidden volunteering, understand what may stop people from coming forward, and think differently about how we design and promote opportunities.
