Need some inspiration for your ‘Bag of Kindness’? 🛍️✨
The Annual Meeting is fast approaching, and we can’t wait to see the fantastic surprise bags our talented members put together!
Still deciding on a theme? Here are a few fun ideas to get you started:
🪴 “Green Fingered Goodies” – Packets of seeds, garden gloves, or small potting tools.
🧁 “Baker’s Delight” – Home baking, cookie cutters, or artisanal ingredients.
🛁 “Pamper & Pamper” – Bath bombs, soothing lotions, or face masks.
💍 “Sparkle & Shine” – Handmade jewelry, scarfs, or accessories.
☕ “Cozy Cuppa Time” – Specialty teas, gourmet coffee, or delicious biscuits.
Reminders:
Fill a paper bag and label it with your theme tag.
Keep the exact contents a surprise!
Drop off in advance at Denman House or bring it on the day.
All bags will be sold for £5 at the meeting!

From today, we're delighted to be taking part in the Big Give Women & Girls Match Fund.

For one week only, every pound donated to our No More Violence Against Women campaign will be matched💰

This funding will help us to:

• Train WI members to become No More Violence Ambassadors.
• Develop new educational resources and campaign materials.
• Increase understanding of domestic abuse, including coercive control and other non-physical forms of abuse.
• Equip members with the confidence to speak about violence against women in their communities.
• Support members to organise awareness events, talks and local activities.
• Encourage community action during the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

Spread Joy with ‘A Bag of Kindness’! 🛍️✨
We invite all WIs and members to get involved in our ‘A Bag of Kindness’ initiative for the upcoming Annual Meeting! It’s a wonderful, fun way to share a little delight with fellow members.
How to join in:
1️⃣ Pick a theme: Gather items around a topic—think “Green Fingered Goodies” 🪴, “Baker’s Delight” 🧁, bath treats 🛁, or lovely jewellery 💍.
2️⃣ Pack & Tag: Fill a paper bag with your surprise items and attach a small tag stating your theme (keep the exact contents a surprise!).
3️⃣ Deliver: Drop off your completed bag in advance at Denman House or bring it along with you on the day.
All bags will be sold at the Annual Meeting for £5, with every bag bringing a bit of sunshine to someone’s day! ☀️

This week, the Microplastic Filters (Washing Machines) Bill is back in the House of Lords, calling for mandatory microplastic-catching filters in all new domestic and commercial washing machines.

The APPG on Microplastics’ new report clearly shows that our wastewater systems are a major pathway for microplastics release into the environment and farmland, and we need interventions upstream to stem the flow.

The WI supports the Microplastics Filters Bill.

Get ready for a day of creative inspiration! 🧶🎨 Join us for the WSFWI Craft Extravaganza—the ultimate gathering for craft lovers, makers, and curious beginners.
Event Details
Date & Time: Saturday 14th November | 10:00am – 4:00pm
Location: Barnham Community Hall, Yapton Road, Barnham (PO22 0AY)
What’s On:
Browse & Shop: Explore a wide variety of craft and stash stalls. (Cash preferred; limited card options available!)
Live Demonstrations: Watch skilled WI Members share their techniques running throughout the day.
Member Exhibition: Be inspired by our themed showcase, “Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife.”
Refreshments: Grab delicious treats served up by Eastergate and Barnham WI (Cash only). Planning to stay all day? Feel free to bring a packed lunch!
Tickets & Workshops
General Admission (£6): Open to WI members, family, and friends! Drop in anytime between 10am–4pm and stay as long as you like.
Hands-On Craft Workshops (£10 each): Learn a new skill in an exclusive 2-hour session led by talented WI members! Take home your completed creation. Note: Pre-booking required & workshop attendees must also hold a General Admission ticket.

Register for Restart a Heart Live

The annual public awareness live-stream event Restart a Heart Live is back on 1 October 2026. It aims to offer CPR familiarisation to as many people as possible by live streaming sessions to living rooms, classrooms and workplaces. Delivered by Resuscitation Council UK, Save a Life Cymru and other partners, the goal is to train one million people across the UK by 2027.

To join the event, register your interest at www.restartaheart.live so that you can receive email updates and reminders of the event and also the live link on 1 October. You can register as an individual, family or community group. A timetable of events will be available closer to the time.
