Some of our members enjoyed a lovely day out in Stamford. Spot of shopping, lunch and then a talk by one of the owners of DSI. They are a company who amongst many other things make the costumes for Strictly Come Dancing. The speaker, Gerald was very informative and amusing. Thanks to Stamford WI who organised the event and raised a considerable sum for Peterborough Womens Aid.

Full house at Mancetter tonight for our annual games night. We didn’t realise how competitive some of the members would be!
We were delighted to sign up 5 new members and look forward getting to know them.
A great start to the year and lots to look forward to in the coming months.

What a busy night at our monthly meeting. Led by our secretary Mandy Coult the members produced an amazing variety of woven hoop wreaths.

A great speaker at our meeting last night. Jo Golby gave an insight into the life of a ladies maid. She ended the talk by demonstrating how to use a fan to convey what you couldn’t say out loud!

A very enjoyable day at the Warwickshire Federation annual meeting.
All the speakers were first rate inspiring and moving

Tonight Mancetter had a very interesting talk by a representative of the charity Mary’s Meals. Originating in Scotland this charity provides 3 million meals on school days in 16 countries.
We celebrated the birthday of the WI with a cake made by our member Sarah. We gave a
quick overview of the structure and ethos of the WI and concluded with a test of our members knowledge of the WI with a quiz.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming 4 new What a busy evening at the WI tonight!

Interesting to know this

Jerusalem was used by the National Union of Suffrage Societies in the 1918 celebrations of women's enfranchisement, and many of the leaders of the National Federation of Women's Institutes, had been part of that struggle to win the vote for women.
By singing Jerusalem, the WI is marking its links with the wider women's movement, and its commitment to improving the conditions of rural life. The song's themes of building a better society resonates with our mission.

The song was first performed at the AGM in 1924, it was so well received it became our national anthem.
