We would like to take a moment to recognise and thank John Henning for his outstanding contribution to Lantra over the past 8 years as both a Trustee and Chair of the NI Council.

During this time, John has played a key role in providing strategic insight and guidance, helping to ensure that Lantra’s work remains aligned with the needs of the land-based sector in Northern Ireland. His strong links across industry and his willingness to offer honest, practical advice have been invaluable.

Paul comes from a farming background and has always been closely connected to the land-based sector. His journey into training began whilst working at an outdoor activity centre, where he spent several years teaching corporate groups and stag/hen parties how to drive ATVs and 4x4 off-road vehicles. The centre was one of Lantra’s first training providers in Ireland, and it was here nearly 20 years ago he was offered the opportunity to become an instructor.

From there, he progressed into assessing pesticides before moving into his current role as a technical verifier for first aid, pesticides, mowers, Brushcutters/trimmers and MEWPs.

As a technical verifier, Paul reviews instructor applications, carries out telephone interviews and arranges skills assessments. These assessments allow him to evaluate the applicants’ knowledge, practical ability and teaching methods to ensure they meet Lantra’s standards.

Pauls favourite part of his roll is the passion he sees in the people entering the industry. He enjoys meeting new people, visiting new places and working with updated equipment.

Forklifts are essential in many workplaces, from construction sites to warehouses, keeping operations running efficiently every day. However, they can be dangerous if not operated with care, especially in busy environments where people are working nearby.

That’s why proper training and a good understanding of the work environment are so important. Lantra’s ‘Counter Balance Lift Truck’ covers essential lift truck safety, operating with loads, and manoeuvring skills.
