Aerial rigging is an essential technique for safely removing sections of trees where free-fall methods aren’t suitable, particularly in urban environments where buildings, roads and other infrastructure may be nearby.

Ever wondered who makes sure your potatoes are supermarket-ready? Potato Graders are part of the team behind the harvest! From sorting and checking quality to packing potatoes by size and weight, it’s a hands-on role that keeps the spuds moving from field to fork.

The role of a Potato Grade involves sorting potatoes on a moving conveyor belt, removing damaged potatoes, stones, clods and other debris, checking quality, cutting out rotten sections, and packing potatoes by size and weight.

Lantra is celebrating 60 years!

This year marks an incredible milestone for Lantra as we celebrate 60 years of supporting skills, training and workforce development across the land-based and environmental sectors.

Over the last six decades, we've had the privilege of working alongside employers, training providers, industry partners, governments, and learners, helping to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to support our industries.

Together, we've trained and developed generations of people, supported workforce growth, responded to changing industry needs and helped shape career pathways across the sectors we serve.

As part of our celebrations, we took the opportunity to raise a glass and share some cake with colleagues, partners and friends of Lantra, reflecting on how far we've come and, more importantly, the people who made it possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the Lantra journey over the last 60 years. To our past and present colleagues, instructors, providers, employers, stakeholders and learners, your contribution has helped build the organisation we are today.

Many of you will also have noticed our new logo, representing an exciting new chapter as we look ahead to the future. While much has changed since 1966, our commitment remains the same: supporting people, businesses and industries through skills, training, and workforce development.

We're incredibly proud of our history, but even more excited about what's to come.

Congratulations to the ABP Angus Youth Challenge in partnership with Certified Irish Angus, winners of the Training and Skills Development Award, proudly sponsored by Lantra, at the NI Farming Awards.

This programme is making a real difference by giving young people the opportunity to learn, develop practical skills and gain valuable insight into the agri-food industry. It's a great example of how industry collaboration can inspire the next generation and help build confidence, knowledge and future career opportunities.
