TS Zephyr had a fantastic day at Caterham Carnival on Saturday, volunteering in the local community and raising funds for the unit.
A huge thank you to all the staff, cadets, and management team members who gave up their time to attend. Your hard work helped us raise awareness of our unit and engage with the local community.

Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Hannah MacKenzie VR RN has a message for our dedicated volunteers:

"As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026, it’s the perfect time for me to reflect on the incredible volunteer-led outcomes and achievements I’ve witnessed during my first six months as Captain Sea Cadets. Firstly, thank you to all the amazing command teams, instructors and trustees who have welcomed me into their units during my travels so far. Your passion and dedication has been truly inspirational – and I know that your hard work and positive impact is being replicated in units across the UK.

To every single one of our volunteers: I am absolutely humbled by the effort and commitment you show, week after week, rain or shine. The way you always put your cadets first; your pride in seeing them achieve their potential; and the support you show to your colleagues – that is the bedrock of the Sea Cadets family, and I am so honoured to be your Captain. Because of you, our young people are gaining the confidence, resilience and strong values they'll need to be the leaders (and volunteers) of the future! On behalf of everyone at MSSC, I offer my deepest thanks. BZ!"

For Volunteers’ Week 2026, we would like to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our staff, who go above and beyond week in and week out to provide the very best experience for our cadets.
Whether you’re attending courses, instructing on weekends, serving as night staff, supporting boating sessions, delivering training throughout the year, or volunteering as part of our Unit Management Team, every contribution matters and makes a difference.
The commitment shown by our staff, and by volunteers across the Sea Cadets, is truly remarkable. Many of you give your time alongside full-time jobs, family commitments, and other responsibilities. Through your dedication, our cadets are able to develop confidence, learn new skills, seize exciting opportunities, and grow into capable young people who will carry these experiences with them for years to come.
Your time, effort, and enthusiasm help shape the future of our cadets and strengthen our organisation every day.

Last night our Junior Sea Cadets were learning the basics of semaphore by spelling out words for each other to guess.

The cadets had great fun testing their communication skills. They then worked as a team to spell out the Unit name

They had a great time learning traditional naval skills while building confidence and working together. 🚩⚓
