Shared Lives Bradford

Shared Lives Bradford Shared Lives is an alternative to a care home or residential care for people with a learning disability, mental health need or older people who need support.

Under the Shared Lives scheme the person who needs some support is introduced to a person or family they can go and stay with for a day, weekend or for a short holiday break. Some people live full time with Shared Lives carers. They take part in ordinary family life and are a part of the community.

Hello Everyone,

Here at People First Keighley and Craven we are pleased to share with you our very exciting new service: Real Talk Radio!

Real Talk Radio is our very own radio show, produced by our members at our brand new studio on Thursdays and Fridays from 09:00-15:00 every week, and we want new members to get involved to help us take Real Talk Radio to the next level!

At Real Talk Radio we feel that the issues and interests of our members can often be ignored by the mainstream media, so we aim to educate, inform and entertain, by interviewing interesting members of our community, talking about things that matter to us, and playing great music. We give a voice to our young members with learning disabilities, and we have fun while we do it!

There are many different ways to get involved at Real Talk Radio, from picking the music that we play, to interviewing our guests to discussing issues that matter to you and our members, but don't worry, you don't have to talk on the radio unless you want to!

We are recruiting people with learning disabilities, those on the Autistic spectrum and people with a supported mental health issue to join our group. The cost for the full day, 9:00Am – 15:00pm, will be £48.

If you know anyone who might be interested in being involved at Real Talk Radio, please pass this on and get in touch for more information.

We hope to hear from you soon

George

People First Keighley & Craven are pleased to be able to offer a brand new and developing opportunity for some of the people who you are supporting.

We are now able to launch this brilliant gardening project after securing three key high profile sites, there will be several major sites at Cliffe Castle grounds site, two sites at Airedale Hospital and our own local authority allotment at Fell Lane which we are aiming to make wheelchair accessible.

Our members will be part of a self-advocacy project aimed at developing and maintaining these gardens, growing wildflowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit for public sharing. You will learn how we can collectively improve the environment and help make it more sustainable. We will also create garden related craft items using our workshop space and greenhouse at Cliffe Castle to produce work for sale and operate as a small social enterprise. The project will offer a work and therapeutic experience.

We are recruiting people with mild to moderate learning disabilities, those on the Autistic spectrum and people with a self-managed mental health issue to join our group. The cost for the full day, 9:30 – 3:30, will be £48.

I’d like to invite your groups and staff to an exclusive performance of the company’s groundbreaking production about learning disability and parenthood, Mia: Daughters of Fortune on Tuesday 20 February, 7:30pm.

Venue: MTG Studios, Lister Mills, Patent Street, Bradford, BD9 4SA

We’re inviting you and other local groups of people with learning disabilities to come and see the show on a Pay What You Decide basis. This means that it’s free to come and see the show, but you're welcome to make a donation after the performance based on how much you enjoyed it. If you can’t afford it, don’t worry - just come and enjoy the show!

About the show:
Having kids is not an easy decision: Can I afford it? Have I got enough room? Will I screw it up?

Now imagine making these decisions if you have a learning disability. Woah – wait a minute… learning-disabled parents? Erm, can they do that? Do they even have s*x?
Yes, yes ‘they’ do.
Fast moving, raw and eye-opening, Mia explores the truths and myths about learning disability and parenthood in today’s society. Think pop culture with popcorn, science with silliness, stories with statistics. Mia challenges the often taken for granted idea of ‘being a parent’.

Length: 90 minutes including post show discussion

Suitable for ages 14+ (Adult Themes)
