Double Act

Double Act Double Act is a community run amateur dramatic group that was formed in 1997 based at Corfe Castle in the county of Dorset, UK.

Double Act is an amateur dramatic group that was formed in 1997 by the amalgamation of the Purbeck Community Theatre (PCT) and the Corfe Valley Drama Group (CVDG) and who between them have written and produced many unique and well received plays of local interest as well as performing entertaining classics for over 24 years. The group is based at Corfe Castle Village Hall and presents a major prod

uction in November each year. Meetings are held on the first Monday evening of each month (7 – 8.30pm) and the group organises at least one annual trip to a theatre. Since the group started its series of bi-annual summer Medieval Murder Mystery Walks in 2000 these events, now inside the Castle ruins, have become immensely popular and attract ever increasing and returning audiences from all over the country. Our members come from all over Purbeck, cover all ages and enjoy an entertaining challenge with fun, social exchange and confidence building benefits. We are particularly proud of the large number of youngsters that have joined us over the years, some with learning difficulties, and all of whom have gained great benefit from dramatic expression. New members are always welcome at any age or ability, with interests on or off stage – so why not join us?

Award winning Double Act drama society needs your help! We are in dire need of a couple of men (30-50’ish) for our new interpretation of “The Cat and the Canary” on 18th to 21st November 2026. This has been written by Dougal Dixon (Wareham) based on the original 1922 play by John Willard – that invented so many melodramatic theatrical cliches with an estranged dysfunctional family meeting up for the reading of a will at midnight in an old dark house with a monster on the loose! What could possibly go wrong?

Whilst we strive to select plays that we think we can cast, on this occasion some promising leads (pardon the pun) failed to materialise and much time has already been spent on pre-production.

So is there anyone out there who would like to take the part of two of three male suitors, to the main female lead. Harold is brash & arrogant, Charlie is sociable & flamboyant – but, one of them turns out to be the villain – so fun to be had there.

We appreciate that you may be involved in other things at present and/or over the summer but we really would need you at reheasrals at Corfe Castle Village Hall on Sunday & Monday evenings from September onwards. If you could make a visit once or twice before the school holidays that would be a great bonus.

If you are interested please contact me (Pete) on 07551 183465 or [email protected]. As soon as possible would be wonderful.

Thank you for your time in reading this request and hopefully passing it on to anyone else you think might be interested.

Best regards

Pete Smith

Double Act's latest performance...
Much merriment was had today at the Corfe Castle May Fair, as the Mad Hatter's Tea Party was visited by the Queen of Hearts and her entourage. Cue table chases, dancing and riddles, cardboard tarts and a last-minute intervention by Alice to save the day...
Thanks to everyone who came to watch!
