On Thursday evening we welcomed forty musicians from across the Diocese to an evening celebrating small choirs and parish musicians. Directed by Nick Brown with Andrew Millington at the organ, we prepared some simple but effective music for small resources. A lovely evening of fellowship, worship and encouragement.

What a wonderful evening yesterday celebrating the richness of choral music and the dedication of church musicians across Devon.

The Flexible Choir, exploring choral repertoire for small forces in parish churches, brought together around forty singers and musicians from across the county and Diocese of Exeter for an inspiring and uplifting session. The event was the brainchild of Andrew Millington, former Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral who also accompanied the choir at the organ.

Nick Brown, Director of Music at St Andrew's, Colyton for the past 36 years, expertly led the session, guiding singers through a range of music that demonstrated the possibilities for parish church choirs of all sizes. The evening concluded with an act of worship led by Fr Steven Martin, Rector, providing a fitting and reflective end to a joyful gathering.

Organised jointly by the Exeter and District Organists' Association and the Holyford Mission Community, the event showcased not only excellent music-making but also the remarkable commitment, generosity and skill of church musicians. Across our churches, organists, choir directors, singers and instrumentalists give countless hours to enrich worship, preserve musical traditions and inspire congregations week by week. Their contribution to the life of our communities is immeasurable.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, organised and supported the evening. It was a wonderful reminder of the power of music to bring people together in fellowship, worship and shared enjoyment.
