Nearly time for Colyford WI to get out our medieval costumes as we once again man (or should that be woman) the Cake Stall at the Colyford Goose Fayre. We sell cakes made by our members and burgesses of the East Devon village of Colyford, raising vital money for local groups. It's a fabulous afternoon out so put Saturday 26th September in your diary.
Could you help us out by baking a cake? Please contact [email protected] to let us know, or deliver your wrapped cake to Woodmans Croft, Seaton Road, Colyford on Friday 25th between 10 and 4pm.

Recently moved to the area or want to make some more friends? Come along to Colyford Women's Institute and meet some of our fabulous members. Listed to our monthly speaker, have a cup of tea and a biscuit, maybe buy a raffle ticket for £1 if you want to, find out about our clubs and outings. There's so much going on and with over 50 members you are bound to make a new friend or 2. Visitors are welcome to attend twice for free before deciding to join. Message us on [email protected] if you would like more information.

We're already looking forward to the visit by House of Colour at our September monthly meeting. Have you noticed how some colours make you look radiant, whilst other wash you out? How certain outfits make you feel happy, yet a different one makes you feel grumpy? Don your favourite outfit and prepare to be educated.

Our monthly book club has gone from one extreme to the other with our reading matter. From Why Mummy Swears onto The Time Traveler’s Wife.
We take it in turns to meet in a members house one evening a month, where we discuss the book we’ve just read. Picked by the library, where we had supplied a shortened list of our choices from the hundreds available to book clubs. We never know what they will supply us with but that’s part of the fun……….along with the necessary w**e, prosecco, snacks and chat!

Cream on top or jam? Cornwall or Devon? You'll have to come along to our cream tea fundraiser on Tuesday 11th August at 2.15pm to find out. £5 will get you a cream tea together with a raffle ticket. Enjoy sitting in the garden at Manor Cottage, Old Manor Gardens, Colyford, eating the delicious home made scones whilst catching up with friends old and new. Cash only

Looking ahead to September we have a fabulous trip to Bicton Park Botanical Gardens.
With over 64 acres to explore spanning nearly 300 years of gardening history,
Bicton Park is home to many rare and beautiful species, collected from around the world.
Travelling by coach from Colyford Memorial Hall, we will have the chance to learn and experience the beauty that is Bicton.

Only one more WI event this month, and then we will be into August. We don’t have a monthly meeting in August, just our cream tea and then book club. Make sure your diary has Film Night tomorrow for the last of the July events, and then the Cream Tea on 11th August.
There’s lots planned for the rest of the year so enjoy holiday time with friends and family, basking in this lovely weather.

Did you know we hold a regular Film Night? Our next one is on 28th July at Wits End, and as a member of Colyford WI, you can come along and enjoy a film, popcorn, refreshments and great company for a small donation of £3. Just let Fran or [email protected] know if you are coming.
There are some fabulously strong, inspirational women featured in film. What is your favourite? Do you have any suggestions of films to watch? My personal favourite has to be Hidden Figures featuring the human computers at NASA, but that’s closely followed by the amazing Erin Brockovich, and of course, Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia and Karen Blixen in Out of Africa. Some months we laugh, others we cry, we sing, we dance but above all we really enjoy Film Night.

We might be known for Jam and Jerusalem, but at Colyford WI we do so much more. Did you know we run regular Craft Groups? Our next group has been delayed until September due to outings and holidays, and we will be making padded boxes, led by our very talented member, Jean. Make sure to let Julie, our Secretary know, if you would like to sign up. Cost will be £5
