EARLY START TO A LONG DAY

Yesterday morning the volunteers of the Community Rescue Service where up and at it early with a 4am tasking to assist the Police Service of Northern Ireland with a high-risk missing person in the south Belfast area.

Due to the nature of the tasking CRS utilised Drone, Foot & Boat teams along the River Lagan with the person being located and brought to a place of safety a short time later after having entered the River.

Some volunteers were able to go home, some onto their paid jobs - but it wasn't long before the second tasking of the day came, again to the South Belfast area for a second person.

With the extensive search area, systematic searches took place using off road all terrain vehicles, drone & foot teams with the person being located after a period of time on the ground.

CRS volunteers where able to get a quick bite to eat when the third tasking came, this time it was to assist our colleagues in Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the The People's Kitchen with the extraction of an injured person in a difficult to reach location utilising off road all terrain vehicles and handing the person over for onward care.

The day wasn't over yet, as yesterday evening 4 of our latest intake of recruits had to undergo boat crew assessments after 6 weeks of intense training to give them the skills, knowledge & competencies on how to handle situations as they unfold as boat crew during taskings, we are pleased to say that all 4 passed and are now ready to respond when the call comes.

OVER FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Yes, sadly we all have to wait another year for the next North West Truck Run.

The weather stayed good as trucks gathered at the University of Ulster, Coleraine ready for the truckers to come along and get their diesel fix.

To bring the event to a close, we had ourselves a convoy as the drivers took the display on the road to drive the route of the NW 200 motorcycle race, led by the Land Rover as seen on Car SOS.

As the Truck Run grows year on year we would like to thank everyone who made it such a success.

So, a massive thank you to our volunteers, to the companies and drivers for taking part, to the public for their continuing support and to our event sponsors... CP Hire, Castle Engineering, Fridge Freight, LW Surphlis, and RTU Concrete - without all of you it wouldn't happen.

See you all for the North West Truck Run 2027.

p.s. comment below and give yourself a gold star if you spotted the movie reference...

🚨📺 WE’RE ON TV! 📺🚨

We’re incredibly excited to share that our Car SOS episode airs this week, and it’s one you won’t want to miss!

Our much-loved Land Rover Defender has been given a full restoration, thanks to the amazing Fuzz Townshend and Tim Shaw, alongside the team at Britpart. They’ve not only brought it back to its former glory, but added some very special extras to support our lifesaving work 👏

This vehicle plays a vital role in what we do, so seeing it transformed like this means a huge amount to our team and volunteers.

Make sure you tune in and see the incredible journey for yourself, we can’t wait for you all to see it! 🙌

🚛 And even better - you’ll be able to see it in person at the North West Truck Run on Saturday 2nd May in Coleraine. Don’t miss it!
