Review of The Walcott Village Show, held Saturday August 9 th 2025
Walcott-On-Sea Village Hall hosted their annual village display of local gardening,
craft and photography talents, catering for all skills and interests over 75 classes.
With almost 200 entries, despite many seasonal growing difficulties.
Regardless of the impressive amount of home produce entries this year the most
closely contested class was again ‘the longest stinging nettle’, which the
embarrassed winner was the show organiser herself! Measuring in at
223centimetres!
Every year welcomes in new entries from visitors to the area who just give it a go
for a bit of fun during the school summer break. It was an all-round excellent family
occasion, raising £106.50 towards this annual event, which is normally held on the
first Saturday of August.
This year also exhibited an interesting display of Walcott’s history by Mike Pyke.
Author Margaret Luckett-Gray kindly ran a table selling ‘name the Bunny’ guesses
along with her donated poetry book Responding To Memories’ to raise funds for the
First Responders.
Well ‘blooming’ done to all the many prize winners: of which ‘Best In Show’ cup
went to Micheal Hobbis for her ‘Figgy Jam’, with her young daughter designing the
label. Overall runner up was awarded to Noah Jysainghe for his
Monster Truck toy with flashing head light eyes.
The Maurice Grey Memorial Shield for photography was won by Peter Butler with
his stunning wildlife ethereal photograph of a swan.
Walcott-On-Sea village hall would like to give thanks to everybody who supported,
helped, exhibited and attended this year& #39;s show; particularly to Sheila Mason the
show organiser along with Janet Cooper and new comer Meryle Adkin for their
valued assistance.
