The next CRAG nature session is on Saturday 20th June from 10am-midday. Come along to plant the sunflowers sown at the Spring session and search for the woodland creatures that were created last time as they will be set in a trail around the rec. We have lots of crafts and activities planned as well as the usual cake and company!

CRAG Pub Quiz Night – What a Brilliant Evening!

What a fantastic night at The Old Fox for the CRAG Pub Quiz. The room was packed, the atmosphere was buzzing, and the mix of laughter, friendly competition, and some seriously sharp brainpower made it a night to remember.

A huge thank you to Jaqs and Bruce Cauldwell for creating and hosting a brilliantly themed quiz, shining a light on the needs and interests of teenage young people. With questions covering music, art, literature, achievements and youth culture, they brought real energy and purpose to the evening.

We were treated to some wonderful raffle prizes, generously donated by Woodchester Mansion, The Lazy Goose, Wholly Gelato, plus chocolates and wine. Thank you to everyone who donated, took part, or cheered us on — your support made the night sparkle.

We also shared details of the upcoming CRAG Your Opinion Counts sessions:

12 June, 2–4pm – Coaley Shop
26 June, 6–8pm – Jubilee Room

What a lovely splash of colour the children of Coaley have added to the edge of the Sensory Garden at the Rec. Around 40 young artists took part in painting nature‑themed pebbles to decorate the garden’s perimeter — with bugs, bees, butterflies, and lots of bright, imaginative designs.

A huge thank‑you to Jess Hutchinson for organising the activity, and to all the children who threw themselves into it with such enthusiasm.

Families are warmly invited to come along and find their child’s pebble and enjoy the growing display around the garden.

Landscaping the Mounds: Stage One Complete!

Amazingly, we’ve completed the work for this stage of landscaping the mounds a day early— and it’s all thanks to the brilliant volunteers Sam, John, Graham, Bridget, David, Madeline and Kim who turned up and worked incredibly hard in today’s beautiful hot weather.

Together we dug out stubborn w**d roots, raked away dead plants, picked out stones, and smoothed the soil ready for seeding. It was a proper team effort, and the results speak for themselves.

A very big thank you to Rocket Rentals for providing the excavator free of charge, and to John Sirett, whose skill on the machine has been exceptional.

In between the graft, we enjoyed much‑needed drink breaks courtesy of the village shop, plenty of laughs, and that brilliant feeling of a community pulling together and achieving something real.

All we need now is a good downpour to get the grass growing.

Landscaping the Mounds Update

The sunshine couldn’t have been better for getting started on landscaping the play mounds, and the transformation is already underway.

The 3‑ton excavator made light work of shaping the soil, and before long we had birds exploring the new contours and children whizzing around on their bikes, enjoying the space as it evolved.

A huge thank you to Rocket Rentals for providing the excavator free of charge, and to John Sirrett, whose skill and expertise on the machine made an enormous difference. Community support like this is what makes Coaley special.

We’ll be back on Sunday and Monday from 10am to finish the job.
If you’re free, please come along — gloves, a rake, and some sun cream are all you need. No experience required, just enthusiasm.

Landscaping Work on the Rec – Friday 22 to Monday 35 May

We wanted to let everyone know that CRAG will be landscaping the soil mounds at the Recreation Ground this weekend. For safety, the area will be fenced off while the work takes place.

The rest of the Rec and the park will remain fully open for children and families to enjoy.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this short closure may cause, but we’re confident the results will be well worth it and will improve the space for everyone.

We would like to thank Rocket Rentals for providing the excavator and we’re incredibly grateful to John Sirret, our qualified operator, for volunteering his time. A big thank‑you as well to the volunteers who will be raking and tidying up.
