The HPV vaccine is saving lives.

New research by Queen Mary University of London and Cancer Research UK shows deaths have fallen sharply since school-age girls began being offered it in 2008, and around 200 lives have been saved in England so far thanks to the vaccine.

The vaccine protects against high-risk HPV, a virus that can lead to cervical cancer and some other cancers.

Both girls and boys can get protection from high-risk HPV by having the HPV vaccination in their teenage years. It not only protects against cervical cancer, but other types of cancer too.

You can help protect your child by giving consent for them to have their vaccination when invited.

And remember: cervical screening is still important, even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine.

🎉🥳 What a wonderful day at St Michael’s Social Club yesterday! 🥳🎉
We celebrated a very special milestone Jan’s 80th Birthday! 🎂🎈
The afternoon was filled with 🎁 presents, 🎲 party games, 🍰 delicious food, and plenty of laughter. Everyone helped make Jan’s day one to remember, and there were smiles all around. ❤️
I even managed to take a 📸 group photo, which was extra special as all the members were together at the club, something that doesn’t happen very often!
If you’re not already a member, you’re truly missing out. This amazing group of people have built friendships and a bond that simply can’t be broken. 🥰🤝

A big shoutout to our amazing volunteers Jan & Sandra who are at Asda Grimsby today raising awareness about cervical cancer prevention and screening 👏💓

They’re here to chat, share information, and encourage everyone to take those important steps to protect their health 💖

💗 Signs & Symptoms to look out for:
🚺 Unusual vaginal bleeding (between periods, after s*x, or after menopause)
🚺 Changes to your vaginal discharge
🚺 Pain or discomfort during s*x
🚺 Unexplained lower back or pelvic pain
👉 If you notice anything unusual, don’t ignore it, get checked by your GP 💗

🎀 Screening saves lives 🎀
Attending your cervical screening (smear test) is one of the best ways to prevent cervical cancer 💪💗
✔️ It checks for high-risk HPV
✔️ It can detect changes before cancer develops
✔️ Early detection = better outcomes
Even if you feel well, please don’t skip your appointment 📩💓

💡 What’s new? (Screening recall changes)
Across England, there is now an updated screening recall system:
💗 If you test HPV negative, you’ll usually be invited every 5 years instead of 3
💗 This is safe and based on strong evidence
💗 If HPV is found, you’ll be monitored more closely
📆 So don’t worry if your recall letter timing has changed, but always attend when invited!

This week we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating National Volunteers’ Week with the most incredible group of people 💙

Bit of a late post... but better late, than never 🤪

🌞💛 Community Awareness in Action! 💛🌞
A big shout out to Mary and Sandra who were at our local Matalan store in Grimsby on Thursday 👏

They spoke to 33 members of the public 🙌 helping to spread important awareness about skin cancer and sun safety 🧴☀️

🔍 Signs to look out for:

A new mole or growth 🟤
A mole that’s changing in size, shape or colour 🔄
Itching, bleeding or crusting skin areas 🚩
Irregular or uneven edges on moles ➿
Dark patches or sores that don’t heal ❗

If you notice anything unusual, get it checked out 💬✅

🛡️ How to stay safe in the sun:

Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen regularly 🧴
Wear a hat and sunglasses 👒🕶️
Seek shade, especially between 11am–3pm 🌳
Cover up with loose clothing 👕
Avoid sunbeds 🚫
