The O'Neill's October Seis

The O'Neill's October Seis The October Seis is a weekend of music, entertainment and craic held every year in October by the O'Neill Family See the events section for more info...

Following the huge success of 2011 in Athy, the October Seis is coming to Cavan in 2012. Again the entertainment will extend over three nights of the October bank holiday weekend. The "warm-up" event will be held in The Bellamont Arms (otherwise known as "Franks" to the locals) on Friday, 26 October. This is planned as an impromptu gig with oppotunities for everyone to get involved or otherwise to

just enjoy the craic. The main event of OctoberSeis 2012 will be held on Saturday, 27 October in Gallonray House, the local community and arts centre in Maudabawn. Typically the Seis plays host to more than forty musicians including locals and members and friends of the O’Neill family. Previous years featured acts such as The Roving Crows, tryFi, Delton Ramblers, The Tunesmiths and of course the October Seis Band. The OctoberSeis 2012 "wind-down" event will be held on Sunday, 28 October in Errigal Country House Hotel in Cootehill. This will be an opportunity to finish off the weekend in a relaxed environment as long distance visitors prepare for the journey home.

🎶💚 What a weekend at O’Neill’s October Seis Athy ‘25! 💚🎶

An unforgettable few days of music, friendship, and community spirit across 9 (and even 3 impromptu!) venues – with packed houses and incredible local talent filling Athy with sound and soul. 🎻🍻

A massive thank you to everyone who joined in, especially our amazing proprietors Barry McDonald, Dan Curtis & Paddy Dunne, for their generosity with donations and spot prizes.

Together, we raised an incredible €3,129 for the St. Vincent’s Comfort Fund – what a result! 🙌

Athy, you outdid yourselves once again. ❤️

When Joe O’Neill (35) from Naas moved to the UK four years ago, he experienced an acute sense of loneliness

'After the initial excitement wore off, I remember calling home in tears as I was so out of my depth and didn’t know anyone apart from four people, whom I only saw every once in a while, even though I knew they were there if I needed them.

'I felt sad and quite lonely, but I knew I had to put myself out there. So, I put on some plays and met some cool people – then in April 2022, I had an idea to set up a group for Irish people who had moved to London and were the in the same position I was.

'I decided to set it up both as a way for me to meet people and to help others to do the same. I called it the Irish Creative Collective and it would involve get-togethers for Irish people who were interested in music, theatre, literature, the arts.

'I started trying to get the word out and on the first night, six people turned up in Madden’s pub in Finchley – including the band that were playing, there were 10 people in the room. But I knew it could turn into something more, so I didn’t lose faith and decided to keep going.

'Over the weeks and months, the numbers began to grow, almost like a drum reaching out to people, I guess it was word of mouth as much as anything else, and before I knew it we had 250 people in a WhatsApp group.

'We now have nights in different spots around the city, including the Irish Cultural Centre. And from the six people we had on the first night, these days we have about 200 people at each event and more and more keep wanting to get involved.'
