‼️ NEW COMMANDING OFFICER APPOINTED FOR 1245 SQUADRON ‼️

After an evening of introductions, planning, and renewed enthusiasm, we are delighted to announce that 1245 Squadron is officially back following our recent hiatus!

As of Tuesday 17th March, the squadron has returned to home turf and resumed normal operations. This marks an exciting new chapter for us all, as we move forward with fresh energy, clear direction, and a strong sense of purpose.

With this new beginning comes new leadership, and we are proud to formally welcome our new Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Gary Fry.

Flt Lt Fry brings with him a wealth of experience from across the RAF Air Cadets, including a strong background within RAFAC ASTRA Ground School (AGS), where he has been heavily involved in delivering high-quality training and development. His expertise extends into drone operations and synthetic flight training, areas that are becoming increasingly important within modern aviation and cadet progression.

His passion for innovation, combined with his commitment to cadet development, will undoubtedly play a key role in shaping the future of 1245 Squadron. We are particularly excited about the opportunities his experience will bring, especially in expanding our training offer and inspiring the next generation of cadets.

Please join us in giving Flt Lt Fry a very warm welcome to the squadron. We look forward to working together as we build, grow, and achieve great things in the months ahead. ✈️

🏆 CADET OF THE MONTH 🏆

A huge congratulations to our very own Sgt Roberts on being selected as Cadet of the Month whilst we are being hosted at Tetbury Air Cadets!

This award is given to the cadet who shows the highest standards of Drill and Uniform, as well as their ability to get stuck in and support the rest of the unit, be it either with supporting training or even just helping to maintain a tidy environment. Sgt Roberts regularly demonstrates high standards and impresses the staff with both his attitude to learning and his ability to lead and inspire others. He is a fantastic advocate for this squadron and we couldn’t be any more proud of him for receiving this award!

Very well done Sgt Roberts ✈️

✨ What a year it has been at 1245 Sqn! ✨

With over 100 badges achieved, 11 well-earned promotions, and countless events throughout the year, our squadron has continued to thrive as a high-achieving unit full of cadets who constantly strive for excellence.

Whilst this year hasn’t been without its challenges, through every setback our cadets have shown outstanding dedication, resilience, and loyalty. From weekly parade nights to major events and opportunities, they have continued to prove that 1245 Sqn is a place where young people can learn, grow, and challenge themselves to become the very best versions of who they can be.

This year, we’ve also celebrated some truly standout achievements, including two cadets representing us on the incredible Exercise Mountain Storm in Canada, as well as cadets and staff attending two Annual Camps on RAF Stations across the UK, gaining unforgettable experiences, skills, and memories along the way. These opportunities reflect the hard work and commitment shown across the whole squadron.

A huge thank you to every cadet for your motivation, enthusiasm, and determination, and to our dedicated staff team for the countless hours, effort, and passion you give so selflessly. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to 1329DF (Tetbury) Sqn for hosting and supporting us throughout the later half of this year — your support has been greatly appreciated.

We are incredibly proud of everything achieved this year. Here’s to celebrating our successes and looking forward to an even bigger and better year ahead. On behalf of the staff team, we would like to wish all Cadets and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you all again in 2026! 🎄✈️

Last week, cadets and staff from 1245 Sqn along with cadets from across the North East sector of Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing RAFAC attended a station visit at RAF Brize Norton. 📍

The day started with a visit to one of 99 Sqn’s C17 Globemaster aircraft, where they got the opportunity to put the ramp down, as well as a cockpit tour and a talk with the Loadmasters, who showed them how they stow large loads, as well as the various configurations the aircraft can be set up for. ✈️

The cadets then went for a careers talk, where they were informed of the various roles and career paths the RAF has to offer. The cadets were offered the opportunity to ask questions about the options available, and it’s safe to say we have some keen future aviators amongst us! 💂🏻

Next, the cadets moved on to the Fire service, where they were given a tour of the Fire Station and even got to sit in the Fire Engine whilst they gave us a live demo of the fire suppression systems! 🔥

Finally, the cadets arrived at the Ground Engineering Flight, where they got to sit in various military trucks as well as a Field Ambulance. Disclaimer; the siren is very VERY loud! 🚨

A fantastic day had by all, with lots of memories made. Thank you to all staff who arranged and ran this event, and to RAF Brize Norton for their hospitality. We look forward to our next visit! 🇬🇧

🇬🇧 REMEMBRANCE 2025 🇬🇧

Today, cadets and staff from both 1245 (Cirencester) Sqn and 1329DF (Tetbury) Sqn came together in our local parades to commemorate those who gave their lives in conflicts both past and present, in an act of remembrance for Armistice Day.

The day started with both units parading through Cirencester, marching in front of the church where the service takes place. All cadets marched with pride and impressed both the staff and onlookers with their dignity and respect, highlighting the exceptional standards of both units.

Cadets then took to Tetbury for a quick pit stop of Jacket Potatoes, supplied by CI Boyle and Plt Off Poulton, who got their Gordon Ramsay hats on and got cheffing! 🧑‍🍳

The day then ended with the Tetbury parade; a short church service followed by a march down the high street, where the wreaths are layed.

We are incredibly proud of all personnel, and we hope everyone had a good time and, most importantly, took time to reflect on those who lost their lives so we may be free.

When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today 🇬🇧

‼️ PROMOTION POST ‼️

What an awesome night we had last night!

It all started with the cadets being split into three groups: group 1 researching the First World War, group 2 on the Second World War, and group 3 on the Falklands War, to help build their knowledge of past conflicts and to honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, whom we will come together for in an act of remembrance on Sunday.

Part two of the night was hymn practice for Sunday’s parade, which involved a rehearsal of the National Anthem, as well as a few hymns like Jerusalem and I Vow To Thee My Country 🇬🇧

Finally, the night ended with our Sector Commander, Sqn Ldr James Farr RAFAC, promoting our very own Cpl Roberts to Sgt, and Sgt Poulton-Stowe to FS. A fantastic achievement by 2 stand-out individuals. Well done chaps, we look forward to seeing you progress in your new roles! ✈️

This weekend, staff and cadets from across Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing RAFAC came together to complete their prospective JNCO and SNCO courses.

These courses teach them what is expected from them as NCO’s, as well as how to lead and manage a team of cadets. They start by having a knowledge check, and are then assessed on their personal drill, as well as their ability to control a squad. For the Sgt’s, they are also taught and assessed on their ability to teach drill, enabling them to assist their staff in training new recruits to reach a basic level of foot drill.

All in all it was a great weekend, with very high standards on show and a keen attitude to learning by all candidates. We look forward to seeing our own Sgt Poulton-Stowe and Cpl Von-Oven use these skills to develop further in their cadet careers ✈️
