National Foundation for Retired Service Animals - NFRSA

National Foundation for Retired Service Animals - NFRSA We support retired service animals from the police, fire and rescue, prison service, Border Force, National Crime Agency and NHS.

Proud to give back to the animals who gave their all. https://www.nfrsa.org.uk

Registered Charity No. 1200949 The NFRSA is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting retired emergency service animals by helping their owners and handlers cover ongoing veterinary and medical care. Police dogs, police horses, fire investigation dogs, USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) dogs, prison service dogs, HM

Border Force dogs, National Crime Agency dogs and NHS therapy animals spend their working lives protecting the public. When they retire, many remain with their original handlers — but so does the financial responsibility for their care. Due to the physical nature of their work, meaningful insurance is often unavailable. When it is, premiums can be prohibitively expensive, placing a huge burden on those who’ve already given so much. The bond between a handler and their animal is like no other. It’s unthinkable that financial pressure could separate them — especially in retirement, when these animals deserve peace, comfort, and familiarity after a life of service. While some counties have wonderful local charities supporting retired police dogs, there are still major gaps — especially for animals from fire and prison services, as well as several police forces, agencies and services without any local provision. The NFRSA exists to help fill those gaps — and to stand alongside our charity partners to ensure no retired service animal is forgotten.

As a charity, we value every donor, every donation, every fundraiser, and we are extraordinarily lucky to have some amazing corporate supporters within the NFRSA family.

We want to give a big shout out to each one of them.

Today:

timberbuild dog kennels ltd make and supply stunning dog kennels - (if you’re looking for one, give them a shout!) - and for every kennel they sell they make a donation to the NFRSA.

Their commitment means a great deal to us and the money they have raised has helped a huge number of retired service animals.

We’ve known Mark and Sam (and Phil!) since we launched and they have become great friends as well as stalwart supporters of our work.

For the last two years they’ve proudly displayed our logo on their sponsored jumps at police dog and prison dog competitions, to illustrate their commitment as a company - and we couldn’t be more grateful, we are also incredibly proud to have that affiliation.

Thank you - from the bottom of our hearts.

As the NFRSA grows, we get busier - which is wonderful, we love it.

Getting busier means we are now receiving applications for assistance every single day.

In the first 12 days of June alone, we have already gifted 18 different grants to retired service animals for a range of issues - medications, emergencies, tests, scans, infections, and very sadly that final, heart-wrenching decision to say goodbye. The reel shows the wonderful souls who have reached out to us.

We have now gifted over £280,000 since our launch four years ago - and there are nearly 700 animals registered with our family - we cannot do it without you, and we are so grateful for every donation, whatever the size.

We passionately believe we should recognise the extraordinary heroes who have devoted their lives to each and every one of us, and if you felt able to, we’d be deeply grateful for your help in making this happen, via our website.

https://www.nfrsa.org.uk/

In return, we pledge to work - seven days a week, sometimes 24/7, to be there for whoever needs us. Weekends don’t exist, holidays are a no-go, but this is our commitment and we won’t rest for a moment in order to:

‘Protect our Protectors’.

Thank you for the love you show them.

Track: ‘The Vest Comes Off’ by and on Instagram - new album ‘4 Legs 2 Boots’ is out now on all streaming platforms - it’s amazing, and we’re so grateful to Roy for his kind permission to use this wonderful song.

Announcement: for 1 day only, the Defence Animal Training Regiment DATR is opening its working yard for sales viewings of the retired Military Working Horse herd. 🎉🐴

We have a number of Military Working Horses, 🐎 🐎 🐎 who are searching for their forever homes; from the old and bolds, to the youngsters whose quirky behaviour means they are not suitable for a busy Army career.

If you are interested in purchasing one of these iconic horses, please follow the link in our bio to the booking page. 🎟️🎟️✅

To manage numbers and ensure that homes are welfare positive for our beloved horses pre-booking is a MUST, and those who haven't pre-booked will be turned away on the day.
All these horses deserve 5* homes, yours could be one of theirs.

*As we wish our horses forever homes, we will not be admitting horse dealers to the event. As a further precaution to this, all on-the-day sales will be limited to no more than 2 horses per person, and large horseboxes over 7.5ton will be prohibited from entering the site.

Fundraising is an incredibly important part of our work, and we are very grateful to the Devon & Cornwall Police Snow Sports Section who raised an amazing £500 for the NFRSA at a black tie dinner they held for their members.

Lady B went along to their water-sports camping weekend to pick up the cheque, and is pictured with Jenny Wigget (Club Sec); Vikki Ritchie (Alpine Captain); alongside members Lisa Moore and Megan Orpe.

Thank you so much - it makes a huge difference.

We are privileged to support retired police dogs from Devon and Cornwall Police with their medical and vets bills - we will continue to do so without compromise. 💜

If you’d be interested in holding a fundraiser for the NFRSA, we’d love to hear from you! Simply email us via our website, and we’ll do all we can to support you.

Congratulations to each police officer who received an award at the Dorset Police annual ceremony.

We hope we are allowed to be especially proud of PC Mike Green, alongside PD Gerri and PD Fuzz who were recognised for their exceptional skills.

You will remember RPD Blade who sadly passed over rainbow bridge a few weeks ago - this was his Dad.

We think he would have been very proud.

We know we are. 💜

Congratulations Mike. X

Who's coming along to join us
17 days to go!!

11/06/2026

🎉 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐑𝐏𝐃 𝐉𝐞𝐭! 🎉

Jet began her career with West Midlands Police in 2021 and quickly proved herself to be an exceptional police dog. From apprehending offenders and recovering stolen property to taking weapons off the streets, she packed a remarkable amount into her service.

Known for her incredible tracking ability, athleticism, and love of a tennis ball, Jet was just as special at home, where she became a much-loved big sister and cuddle monster.

When the difficult decision was made to retire her early after she showed signs of unhappiness, the NFRSA stepped in to help find her the perfect forever home. Today, she’s living her best life in Scotland with a wonderful family who absolutely adore her.

Spoiled rotten and surrounded by love — exactly as she deserves. ❤️

Happy Birthday, Jet. With love from all of us at the NFRSA. 🐾
