Friends of Conakry Refugee School

Friends of Conakry Refugee School Friends of CRS is a UK registered charity run entirely by volunteers and based in Shropshire. It is the sole supporter of CRS.

CRS provides a comprehensive education for 600 vulnerable students enabling them to progress from kindergarten to graduation and providing them with the qualifications to continue on to vocational or Higher Education or to enter the labour market. The curriculum is taught in English as both Liberia and Sierra Leone, the countries from which most of its pupils had fled, are English-speaking.

A few days of networking with others passionate about girls education and quality of education culminated in a visit to our students taking their final exams in Kambia. The science students were lucky enough to received an impromptu revision lesson on quantitive chemistry while I caught up with our scholars taking their final exams.

We've had a busy day criss-crossing Freetown. Our first appointment was at Uman Tok a social enterprise that supports menstrual health in Sierra Leone. We shared strategies to sensitise the community about the dangers of FGM and the importance of female education.
We then visited the ministry of education to discuss the curriculum with the head of curriculum development.

🇸🇱FCRS Trustee Carol ( who happens to be my sister) and I are in Sierra Leone this week networking with excellent providers of education and groups who are also working to reduce period poverty through the use of reuse able menstrual kits.
🇬🇳We will travel by road to Conakry via Kambia where our students are taking their final exams.
🩸Our Kiké mascots (crocheted by Carol) are travelling with us before they will be awarded to our 15 Kiké ambassadors at our day of sensitisation and celebration on June 1st.
