A number of people have recently taken up (again) the possibility of a so-called Harrington Hump being installed on the Manchester bound platform at Chinley. Harrington humps provide a raised area of the platform to make the large gap between platform and train and the high step-up into the train carriage more comfortable – and even more possible – for many people. There is a good example of a successful one at Whaley Bridge Friends of New Mills Stations The Whaley Bridge Chronicle Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Community Association

Alongside Access for All we at CBTG campaigned for a Harrington Hump between 2017 and 2022. It was promised by Northern on several occasions and then disappeared off its list of minor works some three years ago, and despite representations from us, no further information has ever been forthcoming….
