What Is Your Zeal?
As I listened to John 2:16–17, something stirred in my heart. I went back to read the passage and underline those words.
Jesus found people selling goods in the temple. He drove them out and overturned the tables, saying, “Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.” Then His disciples remembered what was written: “The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.”
As I walked around this morning, reflecting on that Scripture, I felt a conviction in my heart: the zeal for the house of the Lord is in me.
But what is zeal? Zeal is a deep passion and commitment. It is a conviction that moves us to act—to honour God, serve His kingdom and stand up for His work.
For me, that zeal is a desire for people to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Lord and living Saviour.
So today, I want to ask you: what is your zeal? What has God placed in your heart? How are you using what He has given you to help others know Him?
In John 2, Jesus challenged the way people were using His Father’s house. That invites us to examine ourselves. How are we using the house of the Lord? Are we honouring its purpose through prayer, worship and service?
And how are we using our bodies? First Corinthians 6:19 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Does the way we live honour the God who dwells in us?
Second Corinthians 3:2–3 describes believers as letters, known and read by others. People are reading our lives every day. At work, at home and in our communities, they see our attitudes, hear our words and experience how we treat them.
Does our daily life show our passion for Christ? Does the faith we express on Sunday continue through the week?
I want to encourage you: let your zeal be seen. Let it show through your work, your kindness, your integrity, your words and your actions. Let the way you carry yourself reflect the One you serve.
You do not need a pulpit to share Christ. Your everyday life gives you opportunities to show His love and speak about Him.
What is your zeal—and how will you put it into action today?
May our passion for God move us to prayer, faithful service and lives that help others know Jesus. Amen. Ps H
