Why we do what we do...

Hope Springs has been in existence since 2012 after being established by a local priest who was concerned about the limited provision of support provided by statutory services to help people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. All too often people who had been through a detox or rehabilitation process were falling back into addiction. Drug counselling by local services was often limited to six sessions and then people were on their own. Without continuous support from services many people ended up relapsing.

Hope Springs is not a religious organisation and it aims to provide unlimited, non-judgemental, on-going support for anyone who wishes to maintain their recovery. The support we offer involves activities such as art & craft, cycling, allotment, walking, cookery, fishing, music and more. In addition to physical activities, and depending on client requests, Hope Springs run peer led meditation sessions and relapse awareness sessions. By way of incentive and acknowledgement, Hope Springs also provides hot breakfasts on Mondays and Fridays for clients and volunteers who have been involved in centre activities. Our Drop-in centre is open Mon – Fri from 10am to 4pm and this is the hub from which all our activities begin.

Over the last year or so Hope Springs has worked with local mental health charity ‘Rethink Mental Illness’ to offer group sessions for people with mental health problems. We also have a strong relationship with Forces on Line and some ex-service personnel recovering from PTSD attend our centre and help with our activities. Addictions and mental health problems go hand in hand and Hope Springs aims to provide hope and a place of welcome and understanding to all who can benefit from our services.
