Today we Remember those who served in the Falklands War. On this day in 1982, after 74 days of conflict, the Falklands War ended with the liberation of the Falklands with the loss of 255 British service personnel.

The service and bravery of those souls will always be Remembered: as will the sacrifice of those who fought that campaign and live today with the memories of war.

Lest We Forget.

It’s Volunteer’s Week! We want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the RBL volunteers who support the Armed Forces Community, not just this week, but every week, week in week out.

Thank you to our Poppy Appeal volunteers, who run and support our Chesterfield Poppy Appeal and run our stands and Poppy Appeal activities.

Thank you to those volunteers who run and support our coffee mornings, twice weekly, every week, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, providing a warm welcome and camaraderie and a brew.

Thank you to our Branch Community Supporters, our specially trained volunteers who visit veterans in their homes, care home or hospital settings and counter social isolation and loneliness.

Thank you to those BCS volunteers who are there out of hours, weekends and whenever to support a veteran in need.

And thank you to those who take on roles and responsibilities in your branch and step up to make sure we are compliant and well run.

And thank you to everyone who supports the Royal British Legion, all year round.

We simply couldn’t do what we do and help the Armed Forces Community without you. 🙏🏻

This Volunteer’s Week and all year round, we’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to each and every volunteer that helps us support the Armed Forces Community.

We couldn’t do it without you. heart

This day on 6th June 1944, D-Day, Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy.

We salute those brave men and women who lost their lives on that day in air, sea and land operations and in the ensuing battle.

A tragedy striking at the heart of the Armed Forces Community.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of these servicemen and women.

Our deepest sympathies are with the families, friends, and colleagues of the Royal Navy personnel who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning. This devastating incident will have shocked everyone in the Armed Forces community, and we stand ready to support.

One of the amazing Royal British Legion Care Homes and the RBLs flagship recovery centre - The Battle Back feature in Natalie Cassidy’s fantastic portrayal of the care system currently on TV.

It’s a must watch. ⬇️

Across Royal British Legion - Derbyshire we run our Branch Community Support scheme. RBL members undertake specialist training to enable them to make phone calls, conduct home, care home and hospital visits to keep veterans connected.

Our County Community Support Coordinator also works in partnership with providers, charities and trusts to share how the RBL can help those who have served, along with their families. This also includes ex partners and carers of veterans too.

Thank you to the members who came along to our branch meeting on Thursday 21st May. It was great to see everyone.

We shared lots of news - including congratulations to all RBL branches and members in Derbyshire and to the county team for winning the Maurice Challenge Cup 2026 at the Royal British Legion National Conference. This is awarded to the best county nationally which actively engages the community, its members and our beneficiaries throughout the year. Well done!

And we said congrats to Alex Fawbert, a branch member, who won the award of second in the Downing Shield: again a national award for the individual who has made a difference in delivering Branch Community Support to beneficiaries.

We also said a huge thank you to Lyn Evans, our brilliant Poppy Appeal Organiser for many years, who is stepping away from the role after raising an incredible amount for Chesterfield. Lyn is from a forces family, service is in her bones and we hope we will still see you in branch Lyn. Thank you for your service. 🙏🏻

And a super-huge thank you too to Lisa McKenzie, our branch secretary, who is stepping aside from the role but remains a dedicated committee member. Lisa is also from a forces family, through and through and goes above and beyond in everything she puts her mind to. Thank you for everything you’ve done as branch secretary Lisa. 🫡

We met the new team: Graham Gill becomes Chair and Sandra Bridge is now our secretary and Alex Fawbert treasurer. Thank you for stepping into these roles. And thank you to our existing committee members for your dedication and the work you do to support the branch and help the community.

We heard from our Royal British Legion - Derbyshire
county chair, James Stafford who shared some statistics with us and gave us the latest updates. And Alex updated us on the work we are doing to support beneficiaries here in Chesterfield. Thank you to Kevin Reardon who as an active BCS does so much for veterans out there.

Exciting times ahead for our branch. We work hard behind the scenes to bring support to veterans in need or in crisis. As a branch we are especially keen to fundraise and support the most isolated beneficiaries, including supporting those who face homelessness.

So much more to do but as a branch, we will be leaning in to the challenge. We already have projects in train to make a real difference.

Thank you everyone at RBL Chesterfield.

If you know of someone serving or someone who has served, or their families, in need of support, please call 0808 802 8080. 8am-8pm.
