Yet another great talk by Brian Hearn last Thursday, this time on the Battle of the Atlantic. I attach the advertisement that I posted plus a few pictures from the event and in future I will email everybody in addition to posting on our page. In setting up the email addresses for this newsletter I noted that our Chairman's email address is [email protected], so I could not let the opportunity pass without a picture of our Chairman Mad Ken.

Please help in our drive to increase membership by tapping friends and associates on the shoulder and inviting them along for a taster. Some of you belong to other organisations where there might be potential members, don't be shy in inviting people.

I will continue to advertise on social media and change the approach so that it is more local and we get fewer "likes" from Russia and other foreign places like Huyton!

A big thank you to David Hearn for stepping in at short notice on Thursday the 18th June, to deliver his talk, "Do you remember the Sixties". Of course we are all to young to remember (not) and he gave us a bad attack of nostalgia leaving us crying out for more.

The times were certainly changing and didn't we just look great.

Our speaker on Thursday the 9th. April was Roy Spencer, a Cestrian Probus member, who spoke of his life and times and working as a Metallurgist and a Management Consultant. He spoke light heartedly about the trail of happenings that seemed to follow him around that included the blowing up of Nelson’s Column on O’Connell Street in Dublin, a ship he had been on being trapped in the Suez Canal for eight years, narrowly avoiding a nuclear accident, and working and being arrested in Russia.

Cestrian Probus met at the Rowton Hall Hotel on Thursday 12th March, where we had a great lunch, after which we were entertained by our guest speaker, Pete Turner, magician and illusionist. He demonstrated tricks and illusions and talked entertainingly about the psychological mind techniques that that he uses to overcome his audiences. A great finish to our lunch.

The club has been in existence for over 60 years and throughout its history it has offered the opportunity for retired and semi-retired business people to connect with like-minded people, who like meeting new people and who enjoy stimulating and entertaining talks and presentations in a relaxed social environment.

We meet at the 4 star Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa, Rowton Chester. on the 2nd. Thursday of every month, gathering in the bar around midday for and a chat and a drink, followed by an excellent 2 course lunch at 1:00 pm.

After lunch we enjoy an interesting and entertaining talk from a guest expert, followed by a Q&A session.

Twice each we host special Summer and Christmas lunches, where partners and guests are warmly invited.
