There is a draft Buckinghamshire Design Code for new developments in Buckinghamshire out for consultation. The deadline for comments is 12th May.

This code sets out "county-wide design requirements for all new development to ensure that new development in Buckinghamshire is of high quality".

If you would like to comment on this code, here are some of the things you might like to say.........

Please ensure all new developments include:
- Bird/Bat boxes and Swift bricks
- Permeable flat surfaces to support sustainable drainage
- Solar panel and batteries
- Rainwater butts
- Walkable access to public transport (integrated into our existing systems)
- Insulation that is: (i) better than building regulations, (ii) natural, to improve vapour control and reduce embodied carbon, and (iii) has a high decrement delay (i.e. reduces time for heat to enter the house in summer i.e. prevents overheating)
- Ventilation alongside air tightness to ensure healthy air quality within homes
- Heat pumps and/or heat recovery systems where possible
- A requirement to protect and enhance local biodiversity during and after construction
- A construction stage recycling policy where suitable recycled materials are prioritised over new ones.

If you have any other thoughts please feel free to post them below.

You can find out more about the code here https://yourvoicebucks.citizenspace.com/planning/design-code/
and email comments to [email protected] (use as subject of your email 'Draft Buckinghamshire Design Code consultation') or complete the survey herehttps://yourvoicebucks.citizenspace.com/planning/design-code/user_uploads/design-code-survey-print-version-1.pdf

RE: Planning Application PL/26/02036/OA – Land North of Pheasants Rise, Chesham

Hi everyone –

You may or may not be aware of a recent planning application to build 116 new houses
on the land north of Pheasants Rise in Chesham.

This land is on beautiful, protected National Landscape and green belt land, is a habitat for Skylarks (Red List species) contains active badger setts and ancient hedgerows. You may know this area for its splendid views.

This area is also designated as critical drainage land essential for the recharge of our rare chalk aquifers and chalk streams. Blocking this natural soakaway with an impermeable surface will increase local flood risks and threatens our unique chalk stream ecosystem.

These are irreplaceable features that a housing estate would destroy.

Additionally, this proposal is a breach of 2025 Neighbourhood Plan. Chesham’s recently adopted Plan (Policy CHESH1) explicitly prioritises development to brownfield sites within the town. This proposal ignores our community’s input and vision to protect the Green Belt and National Landscape until 2040.

We encourage you to send your views to object this as individual objections are now essential to stop this development. Please note the Deadline: this Monday 5th May 2026

How to Object –
Please follow these steps to ensure your voice is heard:
1. Visit the Portal: Go to the Buckinghamshire Council Planning Portal.
2. Search Reference: Enter application number PL/26/02036/OA.
3. Register/Login: You must create an account to submit your views.
4. Submit Your Comment: State clearly that you object based on the Neighbourhood Plan, Green Belt,
and ecological grounds mentioned above. (Be sure to have your comments ready)

What if sustainability wasn’t about having all the answers… but about listening, sharing, and connecting? 🌱

Sustainability can feel heavy, confusing, hopeful, and overwhelming—all at once. This is a space to talk about that.

When I first joined, I was nervous and intimidated, unsure if I even had anything worth sharing. I didn't know it then but what I was missing was a support system of people who cared as much as I did. I found it there, as I have since joining Sustainable Chesham. I found kindness, validation, and real connection—people listening and sharing their own journeys and feelings, no judgment, no pressure.

Join us on the 4th Saturday of every month at Café Nero in Chesham for a comforting drink and open conversations about sustainability.

Come as you are. Speak if you want. Listen if you need. 🌍
